  1. I can attest that Jack’s email of articles is the real deal. It’s been filling holes in my news feed by providing judiciously chosen long-form articles for over a year now. ‘Sides: it’s got a great Yankee sense of humor. 😉

  2. Professor Hanson: you are unfortunately making a common statistical mistake in discussing Covid-19 deaths in the vaccinated vs. unvaccinated. Let me give you two simple examples: suppose you have a vaccine that is 90% effective and –

    1. No one has yet received the vaccine, all deaths will be in the unvaccinated
    2. Everyone has received the vaccine – since the vaccine is not 100% effective there will still be some illness and deaths and – all the deaths will be in the vaccinated.

Depending on the efficacy of the vaccine and who chooses to get it, if vaccination is widespread, there will ALWAYS come a time when deaths in the vaccinated exceed deaths in the unvaccinated by number. It is inevitable.

    1. I think you are right but as you see the Dems are doing everything to destroy him. This prosecution is unprecedented but the do not care even when it is obvious that Trump has not done anything illegal! And the Republicans who should stand behind him are as bad as the Dems!

      1. The Republicans? You mean the guy who turned his thumb down in the middle of the night? Wasn’t he the grifter who married into money, and forget how many mansions he own, or was it that other guy who said the 47% will never vote for him? There are so many of them. I lost track. The Macfailures, the Cheneys, the Bushes…the list is long. Can probably throw in that disloyal DeSantis, if he decide to run. The only man I trust, and made me care about politic is Trump. If Trump bailed, you know they have gotten to him. I hope we all will write in his name at the ballot box if it comes to that.

Like Trump said many years ago — “Politic is a mean life.”

        1. “Can probably throw in that disloyal DeSantis.”

While I agree with your assessment of the republican “Macfailures” and the Cheneys, Bushes, et al. I don’t see any evidence that DeSantis is either disloyal or that he would be another RINO loser.

As the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis has a proven record of effective leadership. And unlike Trump, he has more foresight, maturity, and intelligence when it comes to handling the bias media and the democratic smear machine.

Would Ron DeSantis have ever invited two well documented anti-Semites over for dinner?

          1. If you are looking for another individual to accomplish what Trump had done, you will sorely be disappointed. Trump is like Elon Musk, who can be successful in many area, all at once, and achieve the impossible. It’s difficult to understand why they can achieve so much while many had tried and failed. It’s really inspiring.

If you follow what Musk is doing to make Twitter great, it’ll give you insight what is needed to make America great. I can imagine Trump get re-elected, and fire 50% of the federal employees (if he had the power to). “Let that sink in” as Musk said.

      2. Good points.
Plus, with these Dems, they very often project their very own sins onto their enemies. Thus, iow, there is some (very high) probability that they, themselves, are guilty of what they accuse Mr. Trump.

  3. Oh! And thanks on behalf of the familia for mentioning insurance as members of the productive class. They’ve been building wealth for shipping towns not only on the coasts, but on the inland waterways since colonial times! They may not work with their hands, but the constant study plus those 80 hour weeks take their toll. Too many of them die “the Death of a Salesman” protecting trade, growing individual wealth, and helping people face the death of a loved one.

  4. Went shopping for plywood at local (ATL metro) Home Depot.
    11/32 (3/8 nominal) BCX $41
    15/32 (1/2 nominal) BCX $45
    23/32 (3/4 nominal) BCX $54

Good thing for me I only needed a 1/4 sheet which cost a measly $32.

  5. I just love you guys. I listen from here in Florence, Italy. Hearing about the craziness of my alma mater that brought me here! I translate for my husband as much as I can about what’s going on Stateside….until he is so incredulous and disgusted that I have to stop. It is such a humiliation. I am so thankful for your sanity and wisdom and sense of humor that are all so important for living in this world that really needs explaining.

    1. Yes, yes.
This place with VDH and Mr. Jack is an oasis of reason and cognition.
Thank goodness for this mental lifeboat.

Not to be gross, but in reference to the comment about having to stop for too much disgust.

Possibly one of the grossest moments of embarrassment for this NATION was with Mr. Biden’s visit to the Vatican last summer. That even surpassed his insult during an attempted conversation with Queen Consort Camilla and her good friend. Those were moments of National cringe for what he did on the World’s Stage. One may wonder how his State Department was able to clean-up his multiple messes or if they even tried.

  6. Dear professor Hanson! Your podcast is wonderful and I listen to all of them when I can! The analysis that you bring in is informed and intelligent and I feel that every time I listen I learn something new!
The podcast posted today made me feel sad, I can’t understand all the unfairness that Trump is bombarded with and it hurts me to see people descending to this level of hatred! I feel that he was a good president and accomplished almost everything he promised he would despite the Dems throwing everything they could against him! Hope you are well and your Covid is over!

  7. Though your opinions are usually spot-on, I find a couple of your comments lacking coherence: 1. If you don’t have a problem with the legality of alcohol and cigarettes, then you shouldn’t disparage Biden for marijuana reform. The former are much more of a danger to the public than the latter. 2. You seem to imply that it is unsurprising that Bankman-Fried is a criminal, given that he is slovenly. First, many well-dressed individuals, like Madoff, are criminals, hence the term “White Collar Crime.” Second, Bankman-Fried may dress very casually and his hair may be… liberated, but he doesn’t appear to be unwashed. I think it’s enough (and appropriate) to attack the content of his character without making irrelevant comments about his clothes and hairstyle.
