The Walls of Constantinople and How the Impenetrable Become Penetrable

In this weekend episode, Victor Davis Hanson and cohost Sami Winc talk about Constantinople’s fall in 1453 and more current news: Russian boats off the Florida coast, Pelosi’s extreme rhetoric, Mexico’s president now willing to help with hordes at the border, and lies about Israeli hostage rescue.

  2. As an historian who has read the Ottoman sources in Turkish, I think I could add something to this discussion, in particular about the organization and tactics of the Ottoman military — the bashi bazouks, Janissaries, sepahis, etc. if you cover this topic again, I hope you’ll consider inviting me.

    cheers

  3. The vandalized Christopher of Columbus statue Pelosi was so blase about was in the Little Italy section of Baltimore, MD. She was raised there and the residents had named a local street after her family of which they were so proud. The former mayor’s daughter, she paid them back with world class indifference.

    1. MEPLAT,

Can’t say I have much sympathy for the Baltimore Italians. As the old saying goes, “if you sleep with dogs, then don’t complain when you wake up with fleas.”

    2. That “Woman” single-handedly destroyed California constantly, prancing around with her nose in the air, praising the virtue of herself! She is the worst of the worst!

  4. Whoa!!! That deep sultry voice! I don’t know what Sami is suffering, but is there any way it can be made permanent?

  5. Dear Dr. Hanson,

You made 2 errors in taking Paxlovid:
    1. you waited to take it. The longer after onset of symptoms you start, the less the effect. I got Covid and took my first dose 23 hours after onset – I felt 90% better in 12 hours
    2. you finished it and got a rebound – and didn’t take a second course. Same thing happened to me, 24 hours after finishing, symptoms came back, although not as severe. This happens to one third of patients. I took a second course immediately, again felt 90% better in 12 hours. Then it kind of grumbled on in a low key for 2 more weeks. I did not get long Covid. Doing 65 pound kettlebell swings right now, and I am 69 years old.

    Best – John Foster MD
