In this episode of the Victor Davis Hanson Show, Victor Davis Hanson and co-host Jack Fowler discuss the current political landscape, focusing on the recent legislative developments, particularly the ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ the erosion of trust in experts and academia, Trump’s unique leadership style, the recent Supreme Court decisions, and more.
Prof Hanson, as an part time student of History, I would rate Pres Trump as one of the four Loose Political Cannons of the United States: Thomas Payne, Andy By-God Jackson, and Teddy Roosevelt. It is the role of the Loose Political Cannon to roll across the deck, smash the gilded woodwork, and to expose the dry rot underneath.
VDH,
Do you think Senator Ron Paul deserves more credit for consistently holding to his beliefs? It appears that the fiscal crisis argument is only raised by the out of power party who then soon forget it when they are in power.
Thanks
I thought this was one of the best discussions EVER.

Jack Fowler mentioned a “Nancy Pelosi Fund” for investing around 55 minutes into the Apple Podcasts version. There is a website called ‘Autopilot’ that uses the public disclosure forms by public figures to offer an investing portfolio that mimics the Pelosi trades. You can read more about it via a biased source: https://www.salon.com/2025/03/17/pelosi-tracker-shows-us-how-to-trade-stocks-like-politicians/
The author of the citizenship clause in the 14th Amendment, Sen. Jacob Howard of Michigan, expressly said: “This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers.” I do not understand what more must be said.
