The Backwardness of Modern Progressives

Join with Victor Davis Hanson and cohost Jack Fowler as they analyze Fauci’s backtrack on his COVID policies, how Oct. 7 woke us up to DEI, applying DEI to past “minoritized” leaders and groups, and Hillsdale College unfairly attacked by NY Times article on election denial.

@33:40 ff “Don’t you think people have told Biden?”
No, I don’t. Not anyone within his inner circle or staff. They’re either afraid to say anything critical to him, or, they ignore it and double down on their arrogance. They refuse to accept that he does anything wrong.
They are fools, incompetent fools. But that’s progressive.

  2. I am a millennial, but I am going to use an exhausted gen-z term here and say that I still find myself so triggered by these stories of COVID nut job mask warriors lashing out with their strange sense of virtue on some innocent bystander (like your granddaughter). It always brings back a flood of unfortunate memories from the pandemic when I was pregnant with my first child…how truly strange that time was, and sometimes still is. Experiencing the threat of my newborn son being taken away for weeks upon his arrival if I would’ve tested positive for COVID, being told that I was “reckless” for working at a homeless shelter during my pregnancy and “careless” for introducing my child to his grandparents shortly after his birth, or not being able to have my husband by my side at any of the ultrasound appointments, or when I was having my long-awaited baby shower in August 2020…not only did I endure friends and family refusing to attend and shaming me for doing something so selfish and unsafe, but in the middle of the party, while most guests were eating cake and therefore maskless, a stranger took it upon himself to come into the space where the event was being held to yell at everyone and threaten to “report me.” All these things still make me scratch my head and wonder if the world continues to go crazy without me.

  3. Commensurately not “commiserately”, may be my hearing, but I distinctly hear an “S” not an “N”. Not a big issue, but it is repeated in many of your discussions.

  4. Another terrific podcast.
The discussion is super as well as the in between banter. Great times.
    Thank you.
Me too, Jack. No more cruising at flight level 35. I’m keeping to my jeep on solid earth. 😉

  6. Excerpt from speech by President Calvin Coolidge, Juy 1926, Philadelphia Convention Hall, regarding the Declaration of Independence: About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning cannot be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction cannot lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.
