Thank you for your podcast. You’re a pleasure to listen to and you’re making a difference. I heard you say that at the behest of Mrs. Hanson you write a ‘reasons to be optimistic’ paper every couple of days and I hope I have a story to help you in that effort.
I was interested in getting vaccinated and could not schedule an appointment. I would go to the California state and county websites without result. You confirmed my experience was broadly felt, and said that the effort was now outsourced to various pharmacy chains. You noted that a person could go to one and possibly just walk in and ask. Well, that sounded impossible, but I tried the CVS website, and 15 minutes later I had an appointment. While I was there, I spoke with the nurse and other patrons. I learned that some locations have an alternates list while others don’t, or have long lists. So it’s worth going to the local locations and inquiring. They do have no-shows, and once they open a vial the staff doesn’t like to go home without using it all up. The nurse noted once spending an extra two hours trying to find available volunteers at the end of a day – so I must conclude your walk up statement wasn’t impossible in the least.
All the best to you and Mrs. H.
