In this episode, Victor Davis Hanson and cohost Jack Fowler provide an update on the Goldberg leak, Trump’s messaging, Greenland, AI video’s, California’s water project and regulations, judge Boasberg, South Dakota ranchers fight the feds, and the question of China’s ascendence.
Regarding the unsettling uses of AI, I was struck by the fairly recent recruiting video for the Secret Service. At the beginning of it, there was a fairly common image of President Lincoln outside of a tent early in the Civil War, with General McClellan, I believe. What was so odd — and historically dishonest — was the image of Mr. Lincoln having motion, as if in a moving picture way before such things were possible.
Why doesn’t Musk explain in detail how someone ends up on Social Security for 100+ years. This is how it works…My mother passed away in Feb. 2024 (age 97). I immediately went to my local Social Security office with her death Certificate and said she has passed away, stop the monthly electronic deposits. (I also did this with the private pension she was receiving). If I didn’t the money would just keep coming in indefinitely.
I was an alternate Trustee on a small 4,000 person Pension Plan. Every year the Plan (somehow electronically) check to see if the pensioner is still alive. In the old days the person had to have a notarized paper or come in personally to prove they were alive. I don’t even know if the Social Security Administration checks….

Victor keeps talking about security clearances. The ONLY reason to have a security clearance is “a need to know” based on the position a person is filling. There is a difference between a clearance and the background investigation supporting it. When I worked at the Marine Corps’ Atlantic headquarters I had a Top Secret/NATO Cosmic clearance. My next duty station was Headquarters Marine Corps, which is senior but my clearance was reduced to Secret because I didn’t need to work with Top Secret material. Clearances should be AUTOMATICALLY reduced/removed when a person leaves the position that required it. It can be quickly restored if and when that person enters a position that officially requires it if it has not been too long. Clearance investigation update can be made if it has or if a more sensitive clearance is required. This would stop all of the gratuitous clearances.
I think if I were helped by Victor I would be eternally grateful to him.
The aspirant podcaster Victor discussed ( re the dangers of AI) clearly has a number of things to learn; one of them is loyalty and the second is gratitude to a brilliant scholar and an exceptional man.
Victor classily let him remain anonymous.
OK, yeah, he found the news story.
Jack, President Trump did name Brett Bozell to be our ambassador to South Africa, on March 26th, if I am not mistaken.
