  1. I just ran across this man. He is good. You don’t need a PhD to resonate. Victor is an exception, of course. 😉

  2. Great podcast by a voice of reason in this crazy world.
A suggestion: please please buy a quality microphone. Most of the time you sound as if you’re using your laptop’s builtin mic and are 5ft away from it. So lousy audio with such quality content is a crime.

  3. I think Trump hits Desantis so wildly on Covid is because Trump is weak on that issue. He knows it hurt the country with the closure, his voters dont like the Vax. Trump hits hardest where he’s weak. Thats him. Never show weakness.

Never, ever, ever, EVAH ask a classics professor for “a short reading list in the classics.”

Thanks for my laugh for the day, I thought of that while Victor was going on with the list. That could take girl through graduate school.

  5. As always an exceptional podcast.
Please expound on the comment that you think the GOP may get helped from “doing something” but would have lost the PR battle in shutting down the government!
My read on that statement is that the US voters are ignorant and unable to think long term regarding our government spending sprees. Given that we are now $32T in debt and heading to $50T by 2033, you may be 100% correct, in which case the voters are willingly kicking that can down the road to future generations.
Such a sad commentary on a once great nation.

  6. I want a Sami’s rules tee shirt.

I think Victor nails the reality of the situation in this podcast. It doesn’t say what should be, but focuses on what options are available.

Remember: when looking at Victor’s list of reading (ditch Lattimore! Do Fagles or Fitzgerald. Fagles Oresteia is the only readable translation for beginners) anything is better than nothing! Plunge in and then keep picking away. The canon is vast and always changing, so you can’t go wrong by picking one book over another. As a former high school instructor, I would go: Iliad, Odyssey, Theogony, Sappho, Oresteia, Antigone, Bacchae, Lysistrata, Herodotus selections, Thucydides selections, Euthyphro, Apology, Aristotle’s Rhetoric and Poetics. I and colleagues have done that in a little over a semester with 9th graders reliably. Use Fagles, Fitzgerald, and the Oxford World Classics editions.

  7. With all due respect, Professor Hanson. You continually make reference to the the Democrats majority in the Senate at this particular time. However, you fail to stress the point enough that the narcissist Trump was responsible for the loss of two senators in the runoff election in Georgia when he firmly instructed his constituents not to vote because the election was fixed, thereby sabotaging his own Republican Party.
Professor, if I may make a suggestion for a future endeavor, why don’t you have a hypothetical podcast as to how our country would have been less adversely effected by having those two lost majority senators during this hideous Biden Administration.

Professor Hanson recently after this video spoke on that very topic, and it didn’t go down as the previous comments indicated; Trump never 👩‍💻👨‍💻told his voters not to vote in the Georgia election… 💁‍♀️💁‍♂️
I’ll let you listen to the video and let Victor describe it best what occurred in his words. 👨‍🏫

As usual the one’s not quite sure, or against Trump are way too 🧚‍♀️easily 🧜‍♀️ensnared by mainstream media 🧞‍♀️narrative agenda 🙎‍♀️🙅‍♂️🙆‍♂️🙆‍♀️making that comes up woefully Lake Woebegone fantasy news.
