Join Victor Davis Hanson and cohost Jack Fowler as they tackle the shifting dynamics of the youth vote and the implications of recent political trends. They delve into the concerns surrounding young voters’ engagement with the Democratic Party and discuss the cultural ramifications of activism, including shoplifting as a form of protest. Victor shares insights from the latest issue of Strategica and reflects on the challenges facing today’s youth as they navigate economic hurdles and societal expectations.
When you ponder how today’s Jacobins might worry about future generations’ assessments of them, I have to chuckle a bit. They are not trained to reflect on anything. The opposite of “love” is not “hate”, but rather, “self-centeredness”. They couldn’t care less what happens after their deaths. Ergo, the only possible way to grab their attentions and, potentially, modify their behaviors, is to get it into their heads that they will suffer now. You actually have said that several times, regarding their fears about losing credentials and future jobs. Unfortunately, this applies to academics as well. These are not reflective people. They must be dealt with bluntly and directly without fear of hurting their feelings.
Hi,
I have wanted to leave a comment for the last month or so.
I have been listening to VDH for the last 3 years or so and have come to appreciate not only his insights and knowledge but also the fact that his thoughts encourage me to get deeper into some of the issues. For instance tariffs. We keep hearing about them but I wanted to get more information about what we were being charged by other countries. The numbers are interesting and not the figures you usually hear in the press.
Another question also comes to mind when I hear about Anthony Fauci. Why did he not talk directly to the Wuhan lab and ask if they had a vaccine in the works? In all his public comments about gain of function he said it was to produce new vaccines in case of new strains of infectious diseases. I guess he was only interested in protecting his reputation. So with all the money he contributed to the lab’s research he was not able to reach out to his fellow scientists and get information that would help in producing a vaccine.
By the way I would like to give some well earned praise to both Jack and Sami.
They both seem more at ease as they settle into their roles. Sami is not afraid to bring out her questions or comments and Jack is at ease with his sense of humor.
Good luck to you all
Sincerely,
FJK
Always a comfort to hear the Garryowen to start a VDH podcast!
