While many, Left and Right, believe the Trump administration’s decision to park the USS Gerald R. Ford off the coast of Venezuela is a precursor for war, Victor Davis Hanson argues that President Donald Trump’s America First base and recent U.S. history in the region may shine the light on an entirely different outcome.
Victor, you’re right about almost everything, including Trump’s foolish musings about increasing Chinese student visas to 600-700,000, of which 5-10% will be spies.
I submit that WW3 is underway, with its kinetic phase only a few years (or months) in the offing.
We greatly appreciate you, Sami & Jack.
May God bless and protect you three in these tumultuous times.
I submit that the people Victor says were his best friends were not friends; they were friendly acquaintances. Many of these because Victor is a world-famous scholar. They basked in his reputation while it was costless. It is like “friends” on Facebook. Two dimensional. It is human to want to have many friends. Also unlikely. Actual friends stick by you unless you commit a henious crime; of which expressing opinions is not one.
About people who know better but go along with a herd for reasons of their own safety.
1). We ask soldiers to risk their earthly lives and bodily integrity when we tell them to go into battle. And they do so.
But our politicians and others who see themselves as our betters can’t muster the courage to stand up for their inner convictions against viewpoints or policies that are wrong if not insane, are waaaay below contempt.
2). This is a little off-topic, but maybe not too much.
Though I love history, I’m not an historian. I’m particularly interested in “human nature” as is a product of evolution and as seen in history, which means I’m interested in how human beings “tick” (you can see common traits between civilizations and across time).
One of the biggest influences on me has been experimental psychologist Anthony Pratkanis’s 1995 article entitled: “How to Sell a Pseudo-science” in the Skeptical Inquirer.
I took his easily-read, entertaining and well-referenced effort as a warning to myself about how easily I could be duped. If you’re interested, this is the link to it:
