  1. Vote as if your life depends on it. It might. Agree that voting may be the best way to honor Charlie Kirk. I too pray that the Sunday memorial does not devolve into a political rally. That might be a huge turnoff to the “persuadables” still out there. On a lighter note, Victor and Jack, I love your digressions on movies etc. I humbly submit Bogart had a pretty good range too: The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, The Treasure of Sierra Madre, The Caine Mutiny, Sabrina, Beat the Devil & The African Queen. Been coming here since it was VDH’s Private Papers. Loved the podcast and now UTube is even better.

  2. I disagree about voting for a Democrat under any circumstances. It is the arithmetic. It doesn’t matter how the individual will vote. Electing a Democrat adds to the number of Democrats in the House or Senate. If there are more Democrats than Republicans, then the Democrats get the Speaker and/or Senate Majority Leader and all bets are off. And please don’t say that your Democrat might vote for a Republican Speaker or Majority Leader. He or she chose to run as a Democrat.

  3. Thank you, Professor Hanson, as always for all the insights and analysis. The term “McCarthyism” is a curious thing, as I am sure Jack knows from his National Review days. Bill Buckley understood it to represent a liberal fabrication and lie about a “witch hunt” that never occurred, obscuring the real purpose of a movement of good conservative Americans to deal with a genuine dangerous subversive threat, domestic Communists and Communist front organizations and the infiltration of the government. A similar battle may be before us now and I believe we need similar tools and courage to fight today’s radical terroristic left organizations like Antifa.

In northern Arizona, my Chabad has new members who are referred to as the California Refugees. They are Jews who fled LA out of fear for their physical safety, and yet they do not recognize that Jews, to survive on this planet, must have one well armed refuge, the state of Israel. I’m assuming that with a 50% intermarriage rate, Jews in America were headed for a split before Oct. 7, 2023: the 30-40% who have voted Republican for decades, the Orthodox and Conservative, have large families, and obedient children, are successful in many fields of work, and will remain conservative on family values. The other 50% are raising entitled brats who won’t reproduce, nor will they identify with Israel or American Judaism. You’ll be interested to know that the Reconstructionist movement in Judaism, the home for secular American Jews who rejected many parts of traditional Judaism but still called themselves Jews, was horrified to find that they had somehow produced Rabbis who did not understand that recognition of Israel as the one, eternal, homeland of the Jews is absolutely fundamental to Judaism. They are splitting on the issue.
Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year. Hope you’re feeling better.
