In the weekend episode, VDH and Sami discuss the narrative surrounding Charlie Kirk’s assassin, Trump declaring Antifa a terrorist organization, California’s Proposition 50, Robert Redford’s legacy in film and politics and Winston Churchill’s heroism while Britain took on Nazi Germany alone.
Victor, I believe I commented in the past re my work in the orchards of Linda Loma Ranch near Visalia when I was a late teen.
I worked two summers with braceros who lived in small cabins owned by the ranch, and I am certain that they all sent nearly all of their earnings home to their families on Mexico.
I wonder why we don’t adopt this process going forward for the crops that require human picking/packing etc. Makes a lot of sense to me, your view???
Dr. Hanson didn’t mention the Imperial Japanese Navy when he ranked navies in 1940 so I looked the 1940 IJN up:
The key components of the IJN in 1940 included:
Battleships: Around 10 battleships, including classes like the Kongo, Fuso, Ise, and Nagato.
Aircraft Carriers: 6 fleet carriers and 4 light fleet carriers were in service or recently completed.
Cruisers: At least 18 heavy cruisers and 18 light cruisers.
Submarines: Over 60 submarines.
Destroyers: At least 113 destroyers were in service.
How many carriers did the French, German and Russian Navy have? Relying on tonnage alone is a bad way to rank navies in my opinion.
I will apreciato if I can reas it, is that possible ? How can I read the transcribs Thank Luis Delgado
Victor, curious how you would compare Churchill in 1940 and Zelensky in 2022. When the Russian army was at the Gates of Kyiv, he told Biden, “I don’t need a ride, I need ammunition.”
Complex individual. One thing that I think he wished he hadn’t been a party to is the shameful return to the Soviet Unions clutches of the hundred of thousand Poles who had done so much to save Britain during and after the Battle of Britain in the air as well as on the ground as witness the taking of Monte Casino ( which had repulsed all Allied efforts in assaulting the hill which had defied British,French,American and New Zealand troops all those months and led to the unfortunate bombing of the Abbey which was not being used by the Germans)whose heights controlled the roads northward to Rome in central Italy for months ,starting in 1943 and finally ending in March or April 1944 by Polish General Anders troops.
No question Churchill saved the UK by his iron will to resist the Nazi’s.
However he was an idea machine, many of which were bad. Screwing thePoles at wars end “sticks in my craw” Dividing up Europe with Stalin at Yalta, not good. On the other hand Roosevelt wasn’t much if any help since he thought he get what he wanted by smooth talking Uncle Joe and relegating Churchill to a secondary position.
