VDH and Jack unpack the controversies surrounding Tucker Carlson’s interview with Nick Fuentes and how the legacies of William F. Buckley Jr. and “Firing Line”—a show that confronted radicalism head-on—need to serve as examples for how conservatives handle extremists and bad-faith actors, as well as a recent poll out of Gaza showing alarming support for Hamas among Palestinians.
Since Bill Buckley is unavailable the obvious alternative is that you debate Nick Fuentes, Victor.
Hot topic. Good discourse. Need more of it.
Very sad the two guys that I listened to Prager and Hanson. Consistently disappoint. Can I have my time back?
Believe me, I appreciate Victor, but I think he was unfair regarding the Carlson-Fuentes interview. I certainly don’t share all of Fuentes’ beliefs but in the spirit of civil discourse he deserves a fair hearing.
Yes, he may be on record of saying terrible things, but how much of that was in context and reported fairly? Honestly I don’t know. But, as detailed in the interview, Fuentes has been subject to attacks, including serious attempts on his life. Also, Carlson has himself attacked Fuentes so I could see how he would want to go out of his way to provide the Fuentes a forum to speak for himself.
Since I had no idea who he was before, I believe that I was without bias, and honestly came away impressed with many things about him, not the least of which was his willingness to admit times when he was wrong (both about his ideas and other people), a willingness to radically change both his ideas and forgive others, and most of all what appears to be a sincere love for America
As to, “if only William Buckley was around” why pre-judge the outcome by saying such things? Why not just take steps to make it happen? Now that Fuentes has had a softball interview, let Victor or Carlson or whoever invite him to hardball. Victor should be encouraging both types of interview, and providing the full context and facts as he usually does to help us discern
It’s a long interview. I don’t blame those who don’t want to sit through it, but I think doing so is the only way to understand it.
Thank you for this excellent episode. I am a 74 year old baby boomer who lost my liberal tendencies when I married my Alaskan husband who was born in Alaska in 1948 and grew up a decade behind the Lower 48 states and stayed very conservative. My father fought in Pattons 3rd Army in WW II and was a Military Policeman
and was a bodyguard for General Patton for 2 weeks during the war. My father helped liberate 2 concentration camps filled with starving Jewish people. He would be appalled if alive today, to see anti-semitism raising its ugly head in this country. He admired the country of Israel and the strength and intelligence of the Jewish people.. My father cheered Israeli victories in war and against terrorism as I do now.
The fanatical, illogical rise of anti-antisemitism and anti-Zionism is foretold in Scripture, and, sadly, comes as no surprise to those who have studied the topic.
Victor… with all due respect! Tucker, Fuentes, Candace Olson, MTG all do this controversial nonsense for clicks! Monitizatian! Money!
Tucker hasn’t been honest with us for some time now! We’ve cancelled his TCN ! We’re not fools! This isn’t the great WM. F. Buckley’s firing line… this is money for clicks!
Thank you, Prof. Hansen, for your support of Israel, and insistence that Jews be treated fairly. I’ll give a couple of stray thoughts on a day that may well end depressingly: my Mother went to war in 1943, a pretty Jewish girl with a brand new degree. She told me she was surrounded by healthy young Christian American males saying things like “I don’t like Hitler, but he sure knows how to handle them Jews” (Followed by, “not you, Sarah”, as I said, she was a pretty young woman, and who doesn’t appreciate nurses). So not all of us are surprised at this new wave of anti Semitism, appalled, but not surprised.
More grim is the thought that it’s a fair point among physicists to say that had Hitler not been determined to kill Jews, the Germans might very well have had an atomic bomb first. Hitler was determined that his scientists not develop an atomic bomb using “Jewish science”. It drove his loyal physicists crazy trying to prove they were not using Einstein’s theories. Even appreciation of Jewish science acumen was not enough to satisfy the desire to exterminate Jews.
Why not Joseph Sobran?
