Hollywood’s ‘Willful Ignorance’ Towards Communist Crimes Was Decades in the Making

In this wide-ranging conversation, host Jack Fowler sits down with Dr. Elizabeth Spalding to confront the forgotten truths of communism’s deadly legacy. From Hollywood’s willful blindness to the rise of socialism at home, Spalding explains why communism and socialism share the same DNA—and why freedom still needs defending.

Kudos to Dr. Spalding for her commitment to spotlighting the crimes of Communism. The conversation made reference to books dealing with Hollywood’s ideological capture. I would recommend “Red Star over Hollywood” by Ron Radosh and his wife. It’s still available online at Advanced Book Exchange.

  2. Jack is no VDH. Wish Dr. Spalding had focused more on Hollywood in the post-WW2 era and the intense involvement of the Comintern&national CPUSA leaders in gaining influence there. And it would be nice if she acknowledged the many actors, not just Ronald Reagan, who fought against communist involvement in moviemaking and had no love for the supposedly martyred Hollywood 10. I also would have liked to have heard a discussion of the role of John Howard Lawson in organizing the Hollywood CP chapter that produced the largest source of domestic financing for the CPUSA (as opposed to Comintern funds) in the U..S.

  3. Another worthy (documentary) film about communism for VOC: “The War Symphonies: Shostakovich Against Stalin”- Musical documentary about Dimitri Shostakovich and his struggles creating symphonic music under the Stalinist regime from the 1930s to Stalin’s death in 1953.

  4. Excellent interview with Dr. Spalding! Thank you, Jack. Appreciate the movie and book recommendations.
