Listen to Victor Davis Hanson discuss with cohost Sami Winc the history of Amendment 16, a new income tax in 1913. They also address the news on healthcare, the “Golden” card, Newsom’s podcast, issues in immigration given a closed border, Jake Tapper’s duplicitous new book on Biden’s decline, and Gene Hackman passed away.
Thanks for the discussion of the 16th Ammendment.
Can you please discuss the history of the 17th Ammendment for the direct election of Senators.
I’ve never understood why the states willingly gave up their power to control the Federal Government from excesses.
Of course, presenting a live talk is always subject to the occasional error. VDH said that Woodrow Wilson was elected in 2012. Jack would’ve called that out with some good-natured ribbing.
I think the greater point was vaccines are a deterrent to societal disease and allowing the 12M across the border with no evidence of vaccination has the potential for putting the public in danger of widespread infection.
“Citing Wikipedia as a source for anything, medical or otherwise, severly (sic) undercuts the credibility of your argument.”
Hardly. JDave’s point is that Hanson confused the two viruses with one another. Either he did or he didn’t. Whatever source for additional information anyone might suggest isn’t really relevant.
Who’s is Spartacus?
Professor Hanson, I think you are wrong about your advice about vaccines. I didn’t get the Jab and you did. Notice the medical problems that you have now? I’m healthy and about two years older than you, I was in the medical field for 36 years as a first responder. I personally had minimal training but my experiences with other medical professionals are extensive. I researched vaccinations extensively. I was told to take vaccinations every year for the flu because as a Fire Captain on an engine or truck company lead me to understand that:1. The vaccines had extensive amounts of heavy metals that the body can’t flush out easily and are detrimental (can say aluminum). 2. I initially did get my yearly flu dose but found I got the flu anyway because the vaccines were a crap shoot at best what the next flu was going to be during the winter months. 3. After not taking the flu shot I sometimes got the yearly flu but other times did not. My point is: there was no difference to me wether I took the Flu Shot or not! Besides look at the high rate of childhood diseases and autoimmune diseases like ADD, breathing aliments and SDS among children and infants. These medical childhood anomalies are prevalent now but more so since the introduction of multiple “Vaccines.”God bless JFK Jr for his knowledge and realistic approach to the long time monopoly of the drug companies and what the AMA and the medical colleges are teaching to doctors to maximize their profits in step with the pharmaceutical companies that funds most all of the medical schools. I still love you sir just not about this subject.😊
Professor Hanson – you make so many serious errors talking about measles, I think it would be best for you to avoid medical topics.
1. Red measles (rubeola), and German measles (rubella) are two entirely different diseases, caused by entirely different viruses. Red measles is serious, and dangerous to the infected patient. German measles is non-serious to the infected patient, but can cause serious fetal defects if a pregnant mother is infected.
2. There is NO TREATMENT for either type of measles!
3. There are vaccines for both types – they are separate vaccines.
4. If a pregnant unvaccinated woman gets German measles, the damage is already done, the vaccine WILL NOT protect the fetus.
5. American children are vaccinated for red and German measles in early childhood. Epidemics of measles still happen in the US. They are due to unvaccinated, mostly illegal immigrants, and children of anti-vaccine (and very unwise, in my opinion) parents.
If you are determined to continue commenting on medical matters, and least look them up on Wikipedia before your podcast.
Citing Wikipedia as a source for anything, medical or otherwise, severly undercuts the credibility of your argument. Good try, though.
You have confused rubeola (“measles”) with rubella (“German measles”). The two viruses are not related. The two diseases differ in acute severity and the types of potential pregnancy complications they can cause.
