Join Victor Davis Hanson and cohost Sami Winc for the Friday news roundup. Waltz deals with leak and hits Houthis hard, Jasmine Crockett can’t stop it, three incendiary devices found in Austin, West Coast judges wants criminal aliens back, Hezbollah sends rockets into Israel, Hyundai to invest $21 billion in the US, and PBS and NPR try to convince Congress their bias is no bias at all.
I am reading a three volume biography of FDR and his leadership of WWII from 1941 – 1945. The author is Nigel Hamilton. His facts are taken from diaries of the major players during that time. If the facts are true, Winston Churchill is shown much differently from the hero he is portrayed in many writings.
If you are familiar with these volumes or Mr. Hamilton, what is your opinion about the facts he presents.
Prof Hanson – you mentioned perhaps 1 million displaced government workers getting jobs in the private sector, many jobs coming from the $3 trillion foreign investments. That won’t be as simple as you implied since I suspect most displaced government workers will not have relevant degrees or skill sets to align with the private sector jobs you noted (AI as an example). A lot of retraining will be involved. While I am reticent to pay for it, some savings from the eliminated government jobs should go to retrain those workers, but with strict conditions on ensuring the training is relevant to getting a job (ie: no women’s studies or history or …). This will be a tougher transition than you implied and is very unlikely to happen (even if the investments come in) before the midterms.
Hi Victor! I’m a rancher in the sierra foothills and a Silicon Valley tech refugee. Love your show. It makes a great companion while I’m out doing tractor work or fixing fences etc. can you comment on why Goldberg did not immediately notify the other members of the thread that they had mistakenly added him. I think I know why, but does he not have some culpability for staying in the thread and allowing classified material to be delivered to him knowing he was not entitled to receive it? If a bank makes a series of deposits into my account by mistake thinking I am someone else with the same name, after the first time they make this mistake can I keep taking the money and spending it or am I obligated to notify them of the error and stop spending the money? Is anyone at DOJ considering Goldberg’s culpability from this perspective?
Prof Hanson – while I agree California is run like medieval Europe there is one big difference. In medieval Europe the serfs had no recourse, in California they can vote. So the problem is more than the “lord” class maintaining this system. There clearly are plenty of serfs that vote to sustain the system as well. They do it to themselves.
Putting it in other terms, Vic, PBS is a racket, like an organized crime family. Pretty much the whole federal bureaucracy is, and the state bureaucracies are. They are too big, have too much reach, and take in too much money, that it is a natural progression to become corrupt.
The Founders understood that this would happen, because they understood human nature.
Yes. Sami absolutely sounds like an NPR host, or rather, she sounds like Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon on the SNL sketch from the early 2000s, “The Delicious Dish”.
Or Dan Castellaneta as Derry Murbles, the local PBS host in Pawnee, Indiana, on “Parks and Recreation.”
Just that it’s real, not satire.
Drives me nuts.

The “City” will be happy to finance a large portion of the fees at 3% over prime, what a deal for the citizen. Why not pay interest on unjust and expensive government Ponzi schemes.
I will look forward to your views on this topic. Someone once said, all Politics is local, the people just don’t know it.

Dear VDH
I just watched your podcast on You Tube, it was terrific. Now as a new member of Blade of Persius I find the audio as well, Thank You for making it available in different formats.
As a new member but a long-time listener and respectful fan of yours I would like to ask you delve into the problems of local politics and the real effect they have on citizens in their jurisdiction.
I was a one term City Councilmember in a Florida City of about 200,000 residents from 2009-2013. My greatest take away from those four years of public service was and is the following.
Government Unions and Incorporated Chartered Cities are the real fraud, waste and abuse nationwide. Laws have been enacted that remove the citizens ability to make common sense changes all the way from zoning, permitting, constructing and negotiating with the Government Unions. The inability to enact significant improvements is codified in many local and County ordinances and Charters.
Notwithstanding the Federal Government, I believe local government is equally dangerous to our Constitution in so many aspects. Please do a 20-minute segment on your show about your views and further experiences with local government.
As one ridiculous fact about my aforementioned city, it cost $51,200 to get the permits, impact fees and water sewer services for a quarter acre lot, 80 ft X 120 ft lot. If someone gave the average person the property for free it would still be an incredible enslaving burden to construct a home.
