Sami said in the last minute, almost as a throw-away line, that the immigrants who come here today aren’t coming for the same reason that immigrants came in the past, implying that they don’t come here for a better life, especially for economic opportunity.
Sami is wrong.
Today’s immigrants absolutely come here for a better life. Even infected with progressivism, our economy and our political system offer a better, freer opportunity than any of their home countries.
No, the difference is not in the immigrants, but rather, it is with us. We used to agree as a society that we would turn immigrants into Americans. We encouraged them to adopt the principles that define our country, to leave their old nationalities behind, and to become Americans.
Progressivism has killed that. Now, we don’t encourage a new immigrant to become an American.
That is the difference, Sami. It is we who have changed.
Of course you both make interesting points.
But isn’t the important issue that we need to cut our massive numbers of illegal immigrants? We can’t absorb this many people without killing localcommunity instiutions like Healthcare, education, housing etc.
Or we can go California and put up makeshift tents along city shopping areas!
Millions have illegally entered the U.S. without our society knowing who they are, where they are and mostly are they health or terrorist risks.
In the late 19th and early 20th century, unhealthy immigrants never gained entry and all or most were sent back to their country of origin. Those government officials were better intended than our current crop of low grade morons who are the few, not actively attempting to tear down our country.
Conservatives are hopefully optimistic about relieving democrats of their power. HOWEVER, IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT TRAITOROUS POLITICAL OVERLORDS PULL OUT THE MARTIAL LAW CARD BEFORE WE PUT THEM IN A POLTICAL CREAMATORIUM.
Is there any way that we, the hearing impaired, can obtain transcripts of these podcasts? Or, can close captioning be added? I absolutely love these podcasts but I have trouble listening and hearing correctly all that is said. It’s a shame that I seem to miss some very salient points that are made and have to keep going back to listen again. I always look forward to reading Victor’s columns. I find Victor Davis Hanson to be one of the most rational and articulate people I have ever had the pleasure of reading. His wisdom is beyond compare and he is a National Treasure for the way he can take a very complicated issue and boil it down to the essence of truth and understanding.
I agree…I would welcome transcripts of these podcasts….for one, I can read quicker and also understand better.
