Charlie Kirk, RIP

VDH and Jack react to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, remember 9/11, look at race and crime, examine the Democratic Party’s hatred of capitalism and its shift towards socialism, consider calls to let New York City should be allowed to sink under a prospective Mamdani mayorship, and more.

  1. Dear Victor and Jack, I want to suggest a topic worthy of attention to those with power and influence. As a resident nearby Montgomery AL, I follow an independent news source called 1819 News. They ran an article noting that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) highlighted and demonized Charlie Kirk recently with their Leftist lists of hate groups. As you may recall in 2012 they similarly noted the Family Research Council prior to a terrorist attack on it and gun wounds to a guard. Why does this group continue to get a pass on fomenting violence? Their self serving lists have no validity and they are a corrupt ossified organization. They exist because elite leftist foundations and families have them on auto funding from decades ago for virtue signaling. I hope you pass this along to National Review or some appropriate entity. God Speed.

  2. Thanks for kind words. Mr. Dick is entitled to his opinion. If he happens to be Catholic I suggest he offer the torments of listening to me for the salvation of the souls in Purgatory. That said, I wish I could perform this task more ably and with less verbiage and prattle. Sorry to detract from my friend Victor, who is so wise.

  3. Good thoughts to put these events into perspective. These days remind me of the 1960’s and the tumultuous culture changes after the Vietnam War. The assassination of JFK, RFK, and MLK were historical. A cultural shift is ongoing hopefully back to traditional values.

  4. The horrible slaying of Miss Zaratuska in Charlotte and the lack of aid, or caring, given by the passengers is what we have been molded into. In grade school, if one is assautled and fights back, everyone gets expelled. Don’t defend yourself or get involved in other’s defense. Sit down, shut up and take it. The system will handle it for you because you can’t.

That very system developed Charlie KIrk’s shooter. A looser who can’t communicate or express his feelings. A looser who sat down and shut up rather than a confident young man who could stand up and defend his position. The hand wringing, bed wetting, babies in mommy’s basement and the media they listen to is why Charlie Kirk is dead.

Charlie Kirk’s assassination puts an ugly exclamation mark on a tragic week. The left applauds his death. Sadly, the extreme rhetoric that pushes sick people to senseless action will continue. With that said, Dr Hanson, watch your six. You speak the truth and do so very well. You and others, who say what needs to be said, are in danger. I fear for those who dare to speak up.

Last: How many of the vocal left have been shot at this week, this month, this past year? None! But imagine if one of the left’s loudest mouths had suffered like Charlie Kirk? I hate to think of the rath we would all have to endure.

  5. For the lady who wrote to the show about mental health: I’m not an expert nor a doctor, but one of serotonin’s functions is regulating mood. This is why SSRIs are prescribed for depression. BTW, according to chemist Dr. David Nichols (he’s the dean of the Purdue University Pharmacy School) SSRI meds were developed after the discovery of LSD and the fact that it fits neatly on the serotonin 5-HT2a receptors. Before the discovery of LSD it was thought that serotonin didn’t exist in the brain or have any effect on mood. Dr. Nichols has also said that before LSD, diseases such as schizophrenia were thought to be caused by negligent parenting or as he put it, “refrigerator moms” who didn’t swaddle their children. He further states that LSD proved that human behavior is directly related to neurochemistry.

Just a quick note about the British and American government systems: (1) Britain has a leadership problem, not an institutional problem; (2) America has an institutional problem, not a leadership problem.

If you could interview former Tory PM Liz Truss she could explain why she was forced out after 59 days and how having one chamber of government as opposed to three makes change not only possible but much easier, and having elections every 5 years is more stable. When Margaret Thatcher took on the Looney Left in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s the Tories were in power for 14 years.

This is why I believe Britain will be able to solve their problems and we shall not.

  6. The left gave itself a permanent “get-out-of-jail-free” card for all of its actions in 1992, with the release of the movie biography “Malcolm X.”

Its endless publicity repetition of, “By any means necessary…” and subsequent social studies class VHS and DVD viewings by two-plus generations of U.S. high-schoolers has born fruit.

Add to that 50 years of media brainwashing of older Americans, “Demorats nice, sexy, smart, fair… Republicans mean, ugly, dumb, racist…” and you end up with Life in These United States 2025.

  7. Another great summary by VDH and Jack.
Congratulations and thank you for your unparalleled, treasure contribution to citizenship for we citizens. You dudes make my day!

  8. Jack: you bring a smile to my face, so enjoy listening to you.

Mr. Dick: might I suggest you listen to the exchanges between Victor and Jack via the podcast technology. There you can give your index finger a bit of exercise by hitting the ten second fast forward button, which will allow you to speed through whatever is currently causing you so much pain.

    A Broken Heart

What really hit me last night is the FACT that if the top 50 Democrats died today of natural causes, all 50 combined would not amount to the man, leader, Patriot, and husband/father that Charlie Kirk is and will be in perpetuity.

Love you Charlie Kirk, Jack & VDH

  10. Somebody (the late Charles Krauthammer?) pointed out an important distinction between liberals and conservatives is this: Conservatives think liberals are ignorant or naive. Liberals think conservatives are evil.

Those are two entirely separate frameworks for engaging with one’s political opponent: the conservative’s framework is intellectual. The liberal’s framework is emotional.

IMO, in order for “understanding and persuasion to happen” two parties must share a single underlying “framework.”

If they do not, each will project their framework on the other and therein lies the chaos we see.

Personally, I can’t see how one can reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.

It’s worrisome that anger/rage are additive. Like a drug they give a high and hard to give up.

  11. I respectfully disagree with Mr. Dick’s comment. Jack does an excellent job and very balanced commentary vs listening.

  12. Jack is an excellent host and adds ideals and prompts to VDH as any great host would do. I implore you to keep Jack right on the same track. Sami is great too but Jack sets the right “tone” each and every time…..

  13. I can’t bear to watch or read the news at this point. Charlie Kirk embodied hope and always welcomed people to the front of the line who disagreed with him. He always used his words to articulate his thoughts and defend his positions. He was a man of action. This is on level with the loss of MLK, JFK, and RFK. All of these people embodied hope and it was selfishly taken away. I’m sad and angry.

I love Jack Fowler. His grasp of the issues is excellent, and he is a great counterpoint/partner with VDH. Keep up the good work, Jack.

  15. Marilyn Hershberger

I respectfully disagree with Mr. Dick’s comment disparaging Jack Fowler. Jack is no slouch and often downplays, even self deprecates his grasp of the issues. I like his Bronx accent and his down home manner is welcome. I think he pairs well with VDH.

  16. I agree with the comments from the retired teacher above. I have three children and when my youngest was in elementary school in a suburb of Atlanta, GA, I was Shocked that when volunteering in the classroom, we parents were not Allowed to use the word Christmas, or to discuss Christmas at all. This was in a public school in 2008. The woman working at the front desk, who had older children the same age as mine, was reprimanded because she put evergreen boughs up around her desk during the Christmas season. I can’t even imagine the state of our schools now.

  17. Raising respectful and thoughtful kids obviously starts at home. If I ever learned my kid was being disrespectful to a teacher that was merely attempting to provide the facts in their classroom there would be some serious discussions happening at home.
In addition, the fact that teachers currently are often unable to provide that counter narrative is sad proof that our public schools are broken beyond repair and need to be rebuilt- soon!

  18. Victor the attention span and familiarity of our society is too short to recall the anarchist “propaganda of the deed”. As too few of us in the military and intelligence fields realized at the close of the Cold War, we were in a hot war with terrorism. Unfortunately, that tangible did not become apparent to those elected and the general public until the September 11 attacks. Tragically, Charlie Kirk’s assassination within hours of the 24th anniversary of 9/11 assaults, is objective confirmation our country remains under a sustained offensive by subversives bent on nothing short of complete dissolution of our Republic.

  19. Absolutely correct. Education is very much a part of the break down in morals and values. Educators are afraid to break ranks and condemn the corse nature of the students.

  20. I retired after 20 years as an elementary school teacher (2011). I substituted from 2018 until May of 2025. I continue to be appalled at the absence of moral teaching including words and concepts that cannot be uttered. It is disgusting that I always had to keep my mouth shut about anything political to anyone. (I’m wondering if ,today, how many, if any teachers will mention the Charlie Kirk murder to their students)
Older students could spew the word racist or F you anytime they were upset at you with no consequence. Teachers had their list of pronouns on their doors and in their emails. Even the assistant principal who was LDS listed her pronouns in her email signature. SEL is a prominent part of the curriculum. Many, many students arrive up to 15 to 30 minutes late with no consequence. Older girls come to school promiscuously dressed with no consequence even when there is a dress code.
To sum it up, negative behavior is ignored thus showing our young people that learning isn’t important, and school is purely for their entertainment and having fun.

  21. Why would anybody be surprised by this assassination? It has been several decades since conservatives have been able to speak on college and university campuses without the possibility of appalling violence breaking out. Like Victor, I taught at a Cal State University and experienced first-hand both the leftism of the administration and faculty and the loathing of this country by its many international students (who never planned to leave).
