A Conservative Schism? And the Battle of Crete, 1941

In this weekend episode, VDH and Sami look at, among other things, Tucker Carlson’s remarks at the memorial for Charlie Kirk and how Tucker’s brand of conservatism echoes Pat Buchanan’s, humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza, the failures of California’s solar power projects, and more. In the middle segment VDH assesses the Battle for Crete during World War II, placing it in the context of the larger war.

  1. We want you in South Carolina …a true red state almost… we will make a deal…we will trade Lindsay Graham to California for VDH.

  2. For some reason I associate “Karen of a Thousand Faces” with the name “Harcorn Fenton Mudd”

  3. Prof Hanson… I like your comment ” Karen of a Thousand Faces”…. it conjures up a thousand images.

  4. Tucker, Jesus and the people of Israel. At the time of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ the Romans thought he was innocent and Pilates wife says so. It was the religious men of the day who wanted Jesus Christ dead so in fact it was them that murdered him. They saw Jesus Christ a threat to their establishment and power. K,C . McCarthy his book “ Realizing Jesus “ Goes into details of the last days of the man we know of as Jesus Christ.

  5. Professor Hanson is right about everything, as usual. Except that the hippie culture of the California colleges in the 60’s and 70’s did not then and does not now represent baby boomer beliefs or lifestyles. This only happened on very few college campuses and by very few people on those campuses.

  6. Love the show, VDH! Always enjoy the sharp wit and historical insights. Your take on the Battle of Crete was fascinating, though I do wonder if Sweet Sami managed to sneak in a joke about the *other* kind of schism during the segment! 😄

And regarding California – well, if you need a reason to stay put, how about the relentless comedy gold of folks *trying* to make solar power work there? The failures are practically unintentional comedy gold! Keep up the great work, Grumpy Victor!act 2 runway

  7. Got to love Sweet Sami, the perfect foil for Grumpy Victor & Irascible Jack! She knows how to handle the boys with humor & tact.
