I want again to thank everyone for the wonderful expressions of concern and reassurance that I have received from listeners and readers.
In response to inquiries, and some quite detailed questions and advice, here is a brief update concerning my current temporary absence.
As I wrote, the removal of a cancerous lung mucinous adenoma carcinoma along with the lower right lung lobe roughly a month ago was successful.
But a post-op aneurism /bleed soon developed. That required a quick second reentry operation into the lung to stop the hemorrhaging—adding considerable time under anesthesia and requiring about 5 blood transfusions.
As a result, over the last 30 days, I developed low red blood counts, fatigue, and bouts of arterial fibrillation. All that has sort of slowed my recovery.
This type of nonsmoker’s lung cancer has a rare genetic/mutation profile. And it seems to recur about 40 percent of the time in the general lung area—even when as in my case the removed and biopsied lymph nodes, along with adjacent vascular/pleural samples, were all negative. And the pre-op PET scan show no signs of malignancy outside the lower right lung lobe.
Chemotherapy and immunotherapy are said to be not particularly effective against this rare sort of tumor mutation. But they can offer a 5-10% edge in stopping recurrence. So I’ll do a cost-benefit analysis, depending on how quickly I regain energy, to determine whether to start the preventative drug regimens.
The bottom line is that I’m hoping to come back as soon as possible. But I don’t know exactly when I’ll be back to near normal. In the meantime, I hope to post things now and then on days when I feel better.
Sincerely—and again thanks to everyone!
Victor Davis Hanson

May the Almighty continue to bless and keep you and yours, Dr. H. Terrific news that you are in recovery.
Prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery, Dr. Hanson. As an MD, I can appreciate that things sometimes go sideways, despite best efforts. And as a fellow native Californian, now in the NW, I love your stories about the Central Valley, and how wonderful the Golden State was. Hopefully it will rise Phoenix-like again!
Victor, you and I are months apart in age, growing up within a hundred or so miles of each other. I was subject to a feral impoverished youth which included discovering weightlifting which synergized physical and emotional confidence, and reading which provided cognitive sustinence for my soul in the most trying of times. We seem to share those interests, especially the strength training which I am certain will exponentially increase your ability to recover from the surgery. I pray for you daily and wish you and your family to receive Gods blessings always. I miss your analysis and incisive opinion pieces immeasurably. Please Get Better Faster. Thank You so very much for Fighting for the life of our Wonderful country every moment of everyday.
VDH! Thank you for sharing this news. I’m sure there are many thousands joining me in praying for your full recovery. Several comments have entreated you to take your recuperative time so you will mend as fully as possible. Count me among those. You have contributed a unique and brilliant body of work as a well-raised, richly educated, and broadly experienced public intellectual whose background shares many touch points with millions of Americans. We want to see you resume in full these activities that the nation values so highly. Take good care, sir.
We are long-time admirers of your work and wisdom. Our prayers for your recovery began as soon as we heard of your trouble. We continue to pray and look forward to enjoying more of your work and learning more from you. We ask the Lord to bless you and yours today and always.
I think of you every day, Victor, and miss listening to you on YOUTUBE. Thank you for keeping me and all of your fans up-to-date on your recovery. Jack is doing a good job, but it’s not the same without you. My favorite topics when listening to you are Ancient Greece, and your life’s experiences. So interesting to hear about your family and the successes of getting such great educations and careers. An in-depth autobiography would be fun! God bless you, and may you have a full healing and successful recovery.
God Bless you Victor, I’m praying for you
Greetings Sir, my wife Marianne and I truly love hearing you speaking on both current and historical events. Too many well intentioned, influential speakers lack your calmness of delivery. At the end of every “Victor Davis Hanson in His Own Words” episode, we are always better informed and appropriately hopeful. Thank you and God speed your recovery! Darrell Bredehoeft
My wife and I are thinking fondly of you and we wish you a swift and complete recovery.

God Bless you, Dr. Hanson.
I want to help you get well. I am only a concerned 82 year old woman, not a medical expert, but of courageous and loving heart! I am sending you a YouTube link to a fascinating conversation between two doctors, John Campbell and William Makis, about repurposed drugs that seem to act as “wonder drugs” for cancer cure. Ivermecting, menbendazole, and fenbendazole attack the source of ‘food’ on a molecular level for slow growing and also rapidly spreading cancer cells, starving only cancer cells! Dr. William Makis is an expert on this subject and treats and helps cure cancer patients, successfully – all kinds including stage 4.
Dr. Hanson, please take a look at this YouTube. Not a waste of time! And inform your oncologist about this!!
I first learned about these drugs and Dr. Makis in an article about basal cell treatment https://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/home-remedy-for-basal-cell-carcinomas-no-surgery-no-scar-option/
at Sarah Pope MGA’s website
https://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com.
https://youtu.be/Vo9ihP-ZORs
The article caught my eye because I have had minor precancerous areas on my face treated by my dermatologists over the years and now I was not eager to have surgery on my nose.
I asked my local MD ( for ivermectin and menbendazole and have used these since November 2025. I noticed that my affected skin areas were drying up and forming scabs within a week. They stopped bleeding and started to heal, however slowly.

Bloody Hell Professor, No DEI bloody surgeon type I hope. God bless’n prayers big Swede. Your wisdom and vocal tone and sensibilities makes bloody sense & exposes the foulness the left has become. I’m an Aussie & the left are destroying down here as fast as they are able to. To be blunt I am preparing for war. Annihilation of radical leftists & Islamists is forced upon my kind for existence & survival of the west. If not it will disappear.
Praying for your full recovery. We miss your own words! Take care and thank you for keeping us updated. God bless you.
Continued prayers each morning for your full recovery. You are a beacon of logic and source of informed knowledge that is a rarity. A treasure and one that is relied upon each day to stay balanced and informed. Thank you for the updates and ensuring the perpetuation of your platform. God Bless.

Praying for you. Keep leaning on the Lord. He has a good plan for you.
May God bless and watch over you
Thank you for the update. You are a great patriot and a blessing to our country. I will keep you, and your family in my prayers. The good Lord lights our way and speaks volumes of wisdom to us through many media channels. It’s obvious that you are one of his favorite conduits, if not his most favorite. Rest and heal up as God has plenty more work for you to do. This country needs men like you to stick around for a long long time.
Victor: You are the older brother I never had. I’ve learned so much from you over the years. Your work has/is helping me make sense of America’s role in the world. My wife and I are praying for you. Rest easy. I know you’ll make it.
Sincerely,
Bud Baily
Victor
In pre-retirement days, I worked as an ICU nurse. I became acquainted with many very ill people. Some stayed with us for a few days, but others were with us for months. It was especially rewarding to have them “walk” through the “best side” of the ICU door. That door was the visitor’s door!
Recovery after discharge is not an easy feat. Fatigue, lack of appetite, and discomfort can seem almost unbearable at times. However, despite how one might feel on a down day (or week), do not forget how remarkably tough human bodies can be.
Here is the advice no one ever wanted to hear me say: “Forget rest to recovery.” That did not work in 1926 and does not work in 2026. No one gains strength from lying in a bed or recliner most of the day. “Move about the cabin even if you do not feel like it!” Eat what’s placed in front of you even if you do not want it. Make certain it contains adequate protein, fat, and carbs. One cannot rebuild tissue, blood cells, or the other energy components without the tissue building blocks. Ask any carpenter if he can frame a house without lumber and nails.
My mother lives with us. She is from Scotch-Irish farmer stock. So, I recognize the qualities found in stubborn farmer types like you, VDH. She still dispenses wisdom and instruction to us on a daily basis. She no longer farms, but insists on working at tasks every day. If my 98-year-old mother bounced back after melanoma, rheumatoid arthritis, and Graves’ disease, you can too!
Deborah
Dear Mr. Hanson, as a European (Austrian) listener of your show I‘ve been well informed. – and entertained by your analyses for quite some time now. As many others I‘m missing you. But that isn‘t my main concern. The important thing is your full recovery. All the best to you.
Sincerley,
Jürgen Peschina
Sending power to you Mr. Hanson !
Encouraging update, and as one knowledgeable writer wrote, don’t rush things. We all will still be here as long as it takes.
From the Chairman of the Helsinki Chapter of the International Victor Davis Hanson Admiration Society, parane pian!
Victor, what a great first name, to triumph over genetic surprises! I was accompanying your tour guidance, the day your “Green Book” disappeared at the rest stop on our exploration of Greece. As a physician I wish I could offer more assistance or comfort, but you are in excellent hands there at Stanford.
Victor, whatever you decide to do for your treatment regimen, I encourage you to look into two homepathic treatments – IV vitamin C and mistletoe. The Riordan Clinic in Wichita, KS under Dr. Ron Hunninghake, CMO, can educate you on these treatments. This clinic has been providing treatment for over 50 years. When I was there a year ago, I met people who had been in remission for their cancer for 10 years.

Welcome back! We wish you a full recovery.
Jack & Debbie Brewster
You are missed daily. I pray for your recovery. You are a national treasure. Jack is doing a great job keeping the candle lit.
May you have a complete recovery in body and soul.
Get well soon Victor you truly missed!!
Dear Mr. Hanson…thank you so much for the update-so nice to have communication from you, as we have missed you dearly. Please rest, take your time and know there are so many people praying for your recovery-you are a tough cookie and a Viking, no less….so you should do just fine! Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking so forward to your comeback. Hugs from the Haynies
Dear Victor, your note on your current status is deeply appreciated. I have been struggling with an incurable cancer for almost exactly 1.4 years. My life expectancy was said to be 1.4 years following my bone marrow biopsy in mid-September 2024. Since then, I have been encouraged to take a number of rather expensive drugs, typically averaging $300,000 per year, but none addressed the underlying issue. Instead, they were intended to help manage the symptoms. One drug, for example, was said to extend the time between red blood cell transfusions to 8 week or more. I did a lot of reading and came to my own conclusion regarding my cancer, and I embarked on an extreme diet and fasting in October of 2024. My last blood transfusion was in early January of 2025, over 55 weeks ago. So, my therapy has far exceeded the expectations of the need for frequent transfusions, and I will shortly exceed my oncologist’s 1.4-year shelf-life date on February 9th, next Monday. I have great hopes of reading your subsequent updates on your care well after that date. I am not recommending any specific actions on your part, but I encourage you to use your remarkable analytical abilities to unpack whatever your doctors suggest for the next step in your recovery. I encourage you to develop your own hypothesis on the needed path forward. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Great to hear that the prognosis is good and you are concentrating on recovering. I’ve enjoyed your work for many years (since The Western Way of War) – take care of yourself so there will be much more!
Your words of wisdom, great political analysis and the plain “calling out” of issues is worth the wait. Do not stress, dear Sir; rest and recuperate. You are worth much more than all of that to your family, so boldly I ask on behalf of your loved ones that you take care of you. Praying for your continued healing. Praising the Lord at all times for your good doctors and their great care of you.
You are beloved. I was crying at these comments. So wipe your tears and let us know what you need. Meanwhile, we among so many are praying to God to keep this incredible man safe.
God blesses you Mr. Hanson and many, many prayers are said for you. You have certainly educated me! I am praying you can continue making our space a better place.
Godspeed.
I will echo the first post, WE NEED YOU AND INDEED OUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU. I pray regularly for your complete recovery and given that we are the same age indeed for rejuvenation and a very long life. I look forward to hearing you again on KMJ at some time (I still listen even though I fled from Commifornia and now live in Wyoming)
Get well soon Professor, we need you.
Praying for you.
I started watching your very informative and interesting articles late last year and am hooked!
You drew to my attention so many worrying US left wing policies, trends and interferences that are also running in parallel here in the UK.
Like minded people here also have to resort to the wider net for the truth because our main stream media are in the clutches of the ex-liberal woke. Unfortunately too our ‘educators’ are overwhelmingly leftist and very influential, particularly over the youngest kids.
I say ex-liberal because the political parties no longer represent those values held at the time of my youth (1960/70s) and middle age. For example I could relate to environmental concerns, particularly on river pollution, but the new Greens are flat out communist/trans/hamas etc. and many conservatives are conservative with a very small ‘c’!
Here’s wishing you well for a full recovery and, hopefully, I’ll be able to tune into your programmes fairly soon.
Continuing prayers from me. I look forward to you returning to your podcast when you feel better. For now know that you’re being lifted up to the Lord Jesus for completing healing.
Wishing you health, professor Hanson! If you’re feeling down about your illness, I hope these words can lift your spirits — I’m your typical Bay Area software guy, but my favorite subject in college was by far History. Reading your books reconnected me to my love of history, and I found the drama of your writing to be very entertaining (especially “The End of Everything”, and found your retelling of history to be very insightful wrt human nature. I know you’re a fighter, so rather than wishing you a swift recovery, I wish you strength in fighting off your cancer! Godspeed!
Dear Victor, I am a 10 year survivor of lung cancer and understand the battle you are fighting. Please know that for every one of us that write an encouragement to you there are many others that feel the same way. Your clear headed and well spoken words of wisdom are appreciated by many of our friends and often play center stage at our social gatherings..
You are in our thoughts and prayers for complete recovery.
So grateful that Jack mentioned you gave an update on your Health on your website. I, too, have missed your voice. Jack is indeed doing a terrific job with the podcast. You are loved and missed, Victor, take good care, God bless.
Praying and believing God for your complete recovery!
Dear Victor, I am a French follower and I want to wish you a quick and successful recovery.
I am very sure that, in these complicated political circumstances, the US people absolutely needs to hear and read your so clever opinions. As an European foreigner I learned so much about the US situation following your shows.
All the best,
E Dieppedalle
God Bless! Sending Good Vibes and Prayers for a quick and complete recovery. Hang in there!

Prayers for your complete and speedy recovery, Prof. Hanson. You are much missed.
Wishing you the patience needed to get better and also the comfort that arises from the fact that the many friends that you have who are thinking of you, praying and wishing you well.
Stay strong and God bless!
Thank you for the much anticipated update on your health and optimistic return to your many fans. I have read the comments and agree wholeheartedly with a few recommendations, get as good a sleep/rest schedule as possible, poor sleep drives stress hormones that can slow recovery. Eat, eat, eat… get the calories in you. Finally, do your best to walk, perhaps pace the room, around the sofa or recliner while catching some John Ford films. Maybe use the first five to ten minutes of a show to pace the room and the last five to ten minutes to walk to open your lungs and circulate the blood. Finally, if a commercial on the tv/podcast comes on use that as a trigger to take three deep yoga breaths, in the nose out the pursed lips of the mouth. This helps prevent atelectasis and improves capacity. God bless to you and your wife!
Dr. Hanson- I wonder if what you referred to as “arterial fibrillation” is “atrial fibrillation” If so, you have an overactive spell check! Afib is treated by medication or, if needed DC cardioversion. I have two brothers with Afib controlled with medication. As a former Respiratory Therapist who now suffers from a serious pulmonary disease, please do not rush your recovery!! Knowing that you have a habit of doing just that, you need to be patient with your outpatient medical management and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. This will pay long-term dividends. Praying for your recovery and look forward to your return to the microphone 🎤.
Need clean MRNAless blood/Platelets? I’m in.
I’ve wanted to tell you how much your wisdom means to me. My son sees you on your plane trips. We used to live near you and I can relate to so much of your non political asides. My daughter and husband often saw you at kmj when they worked there. And I met you at the Clovis book barn when you signed my book on Trump many years ago. One of my favorite podcasts was when you were describing airplane etiquette. You have my prayers for healing. Oh and I miss ms Wink. Best, Pat Isom

Victor,. We miss you so much and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep up the strong recovery work and we’ll anxiously await your return to the scene.
You are truly a gentleman and a scholar. A voice for righteousness in a dark culture. I stand in agreement with all those that are praying for your certain recovery. I am calling Christian ministries to pray for your full healing. We need you, a fighter for truth, so that each of us, as free individuals stay unified under God’s purpose. I pray for your imminent “Victor-y” during this trial so you may witness our omnipotent Father’s triumph over the maladies afflicting our country.
Do whatever you need to do. You’re very important to so many. Your voice is essential. God bless you.
Your kind intellect was always a calm in the political storm for me. Your presence is more important than you know. Rest and come back strong. We need you!
Sorry I meant “Our boys went to Cal (Berkeley), auto correct added “Poly”.
Continuing to pray for your complete recovery! We need you. We need your insights on everything that impacts humanity right now.
Did you know Dr. Angelo Codevilla (RIP)at Stanford and The Hoover Institute? He was as our friend. Our boys went to Cal Poly ogether and played rugby for years.
Please feel better soon. 🙏❤️
Thank you so much for this update, Victor. Cannot believe what you have had to go through and are still going through as you work hard on your recovery. I, like all your fans, miss you terribly but am content to wait for your return so your return will be a healthy one. Mr. Fowler is holding up the fort well, but we are looking forward to his stepping back into a “Victor support” role soon. Take good care of yourself. I’m sending every positive wish to you for a compete recovery. Jack always says you are indestructible. We’re all counting on that.
Please God please heal and protect this wonderful, special man. Victor, you mean more than you know to so many of us who have been inspired and strengthened by your wisdom.
I have prayed for you daily since I heard of your illness and will continue to. I hope your family is bearing up well. As a pulmonologist, I have seen plenty of these, often with good results. When people ask me for medical advice, it is always the same, and I offer it to you unsolicited-
1- Find the best doctors that you trust.
2- Do what they recommend.
1 always before 2.
Take all the time you need and don’t rush it, Victor. I miss you, but rather you recuperate on your own time. I appreciate Jack’s fine job of holding down the fort while you heal. I’m praying for you to make a full recovery and requested your name be added to the prayer list at church. See you when you’re feeling better. Blessings to you 🙏
As a two time cancer survivor, one of which was also adenocarcinoma, I offer the following advice, clean diet, sunlight, yoga and/or some exercise and above all, stay positive. Your mental health can have a direct and positive impact on your physical health. Lastly, explore your spirituality.
I look forward to your sage advice and speedy return. America is a better place because of you.
Praying for you, Victor. I haven’t missed a podcast since I discovered you many years ago when we lived in SoCal. You are the wisdom source that took the place of my father when he passed. Jesus has won, is winning and will win, so our hope is secure. Sending gratitude and warmest wishes to you and your family,
Victor,
It is your voice that has given me the daily courage to go on. As a graduate student in History at a university in California, most of the time I am the only person in the room that believes that Western Civilization is worth preserving. Many times, the positions you have articulated are the basis of my arguments, to the extent that I am even allowed to make them. God is surely watching over you as millions of us pray for you.
Dear Victor,
Stopped by your site to find out how you’re doing. You are dearly missed.
Recovery is your primary focus now, and we’re all praying for a good outcome for you.
A good diet, supplement with some desiccated calf liver, play video games for mental agility, watch funny movies, or stream Frasier. Tell yourself multiple times a day ” you’re okay”. These are things that I have found helpful in my old age. You’ll also need to restore your gut health bc of the antibiotics you’ve had to take. A good probiotic should be on your list also. And, when you need to be calm, cursive writing calms the mind.
Wishing you the best Victor.
Sincerely,
Sandra Williams
Praying, praying, praying for you Dr. Hanson!!! The LORD is Good! I know HE hears our prayers on your behalf. You are so valuable to.HIM and to us!!! ‘Looking forward to your return. Love and Prayers. I really appreciate your work.
A book that helped me and many others is “Outsmart Your Cancer”. I used the 3 chapters on Protocel. 9 natural types of treatments with histories presented.
Professor Hanson Sir, I’m just a little older than you, and developed a 10 cm extremely high-grade adeno-carcinoma 25 years ago. The tumor and affected lobe were removed successfully.
Even then, I had some co-morbidities and frailties. I weighed the benefit of chemo, radiation + chemo, vs watch & wait. It appeared I would have a 7-10% improvement in five year survival if I took either of the adjuvent therapies. But I made my living relying on my wits, and feared possible cognitive, circulatory and spinal injuries from the added treatments. With encouragement from my thoracic surgeon and a huge amount of reading, I declined the adjuvent treatments.
I was on tender hooks for several years, and had frequent CT and PET scans. With luck and nod from providence, there was no recurrence, and despite a couple of other malignancies, I’m still functional today, and hope to see the remainder of 1,000 full moons before leaving. I wish you the best, and miss your voice.
You come from a long line of tough Swedes. God bless you and BTW, my Mother’s maiden name was Nordstrom so I know of what I speak. 🙂
Praying for a quick recovery. I just heard Victor’s name dropped on the Shawn Ryan Show by Nick Brokhausen as they discussed the OSS. It is nice to hear VDH get the well-deserved recognition on one of the biggest podcasts.
You are in my prayers Victor
I lived off Clovis ave in Fresno until about 4 years ago and have admired your wonderful service to our country as well as Central Valley. I wish I felt that way about more California leaders. GET WELL PLEASE AND SOON. Cancer is a hard battle to win but it can be accomplished. I agree with one of the other posts that chemotherapy is a tough process and I am sure you will weigh all the pros and cons.
Victor glad to hear you are recovering. As a nurse who also hemorrhaged during a major surgery received multiple units of blood ands clotting factors my unsolicited advice is eat lots of protein to heal and do not rush the healing process. It took me months to get my appetite back and a year to feel normal and get my short term memory back. The older we get the longer it seems to take.

GET WELL PLEASE AND SOON. Cancer is a hard battle to win but it can be accomplished. I agree with one of the other posts that chemotherapy is a tough process and I am sure you will weigh all the pros and cons. I have been there, done that with my husband.
VDH, you’re the voice of every American 🇺🇸 Patriot!
We need you!
Get well!!

Thank you for sharing a bit about your tribulations and progress. You’ve been in our thoughts and it is good to hear that while you experienced some complexities that they now seem under control. Rest up and get better as we need your calm and reason to help us keep our sanity.
Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.
Hi Victor, its good to read thst your recovery is coming along. We are Praying for a complete recovery without any further complications. Take care & we will be waiting for return when you are ready. LARRY & Donna
Thank you Victor for keeping in touch. Any update is greatly appreciated.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Victor!! You are so special to so many!! I heard new medical healing beds are in our very near future! My husband & I as well as many, many Americans think quite fondly of you & the work you are doing! Hang in there, sir!! <3
The decision to take on chemo to give yourself an edge should definitely be weighed against any side effects which might lessen your quality of life. Definitely wait until you have recovered from this surgery to make the decision. Meanwhile, relax, eat well, drink lots of water and get a little sunshine every day. Sue (not a doctor, have just lived a long time :))
We miss you Victor. Keep up the good fight. Hope you are back to health soon.
Bueller?

Prayers for a rapid recovery. I had a similar surgery for a Right Upper Lobectomy for NSCLC in March of 25 without the complications you describe. I am still trying get back to 100%. I am much better, but not 100%. All the best.
Victor,
I’m glad you’re feeling better and have turned a corner on your road to full recovery. Having a complication and a second surgery must’ve been difficult to endure, but you’ve been through worse ordeals, such as that Libyan appendectomy.
May you continue to find the strength to overcome any other future obstacles. Take care.
Best of luck, Victor! I know in the past you have exhibited a lot of dedication to getting articles/podcasts out on time, but don’t feel you have to rush back in to the studio until you’re ready. Let Jack continue with his interview series until you’re back in fighting trim!
Victor, we are about the same age, and although this may sound selfish of me, I hope your recovery progresses rapidly because I really miss your podcasts. You are my go to source for the best analysis of current events.
Nevertheless, don’t push yourself before you are ready to return. I pray that you have a full and complete recovery to provide us, your fans, with many more years to partake of your wisdom. We can be patient and wait for when you are ready. Thank you and God bless you.
Thank you Dr. Hanson. It’s good to “hear” your voice.
