A Middle East Policy in Shambles

by Victor Davis Hanson

National Review Online

Almost every promise, almost every reset proclamation from Barack Obama about the struggles against, and those within, the radical Muslim world has either been withdrawn or proven bankrupt. Continue reading “A Middle East Policy in Shambles”

Memo to the General: Free Speech Doesn’t Kill People, Jihadists Kill People

by Bruce S. Thornton

Advancing a Free Society

Citizen control of the military is one of the most important foundations of political freedom. Rather than an instrument of a powerful autocrat or king, the army in a republic serves the collective interests, security, and policies of the state as determined by the citizens through the constitutional processes of deliberation and election. Running Scared of Islam

by Bruce S. Thornton

Advancing a Free Society

One of Broadway’s big hits this season is the musical The Book of Mormon, a creation of the scatological geniuses behind the cartoon South Park. As one would expect, the show is “blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak,” as the New York Times put it, satirizing every dimension of Mormonism from its obligatory missionary work to the planet Kolob God supposedly lived on or near. Weeping and Other Hysterics: Have Muslim Apologists Nothing More to Offer?

by Raymond Ibrahim

Hudson New York

From Congressman Keith Ellison’s emotional breakdown to CongresswomanJackie Speier’s accusations of “racism,” the hearings on Muslim radicalization have made it clear that those who oppose the hearings have little of substance to offer. Obama Still Murky on Libya

by Victor Davis Hanson

NRO’s The Corner

President Obama just gave a weird speech. Part George W. Bush, part trademark Obama — filled with his characteristic split-the-difference, straw-man (“some say, others say”), false-choice tropes. Continue reading “Obama Still Murky on Libya”

No ‘Revolution’ for Egypt’s Christians

by Raymond Ibrahim

FrontPageMagazine.com

On March 5, Muslims attacked, plundered, and set ablaze an ancient Coptic church in Sool, a village near Cairo, Egypt. Afterwards, throngs of Muslims gathered around the scorched building and pounded its walls down with sledge hammers — to cries of “Allahu Akbar!” Adding insult to injury, the attackersplayed “soccer” with the relic-remains of the church’s saints and martyrs and transformed the desecrated church into a mosque (a live example of history, which witnessed countless churches seized and transformed into mosques). Foreign Policy as Wishful Thinking

by Bruce S. Thornton

Advancing a Free Society

The current military intervention in Libya by the West has been marketed with the claim that its purpose, as French President Sarkozy put it, is “to protect the civilian population from the murderous madness of a regime that has forfeited all claim to legitimacy.” Behind this humanitarian idealism, however, lurk a host of questions and dangers, reflecting wishful thinking rather than a prudent foreign policy. Grievance Politics Barks, Kings Hearing Move On

by Bruce S. Thornton

Advancing a Free Society

The hearings convened by Representative Pete King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, to examine the recruitment of American Muslims as jihadist terrorists revealed all the pathologies of multicultural grievance politics that for decades now has compromised our response to Islamic jihad. Mosques Flourish While Churches Perish

Western tolerance had no mirror in the Islamic world.

by Raymond Ibrahim

PJ Media

As Muslims prepare to erect a mega-mosque near the site of the 9/11 atrocities, it is well to reflect that the sort of tolerance, or indifference, that allows them to do so, is far from reciprocated to churches in the Muslim world. Continue reading “Mosques Flourish While Churches Perish”

Can American Values Radicalize Muslims?

by Raymond Ibrahim

PJ Media

Recent comments by US officials on the threat posed by “radicalized” American Muslims are troubling, both for their domestic and international implications. Attorney General Eric Holder states that “the threat has changed … to worrying about people in the United States, American citizens — raised here, born here, and who for whatever reason, have decided that they are going to become radicalized and take up arms against the nation in which they were born.” Continue reading “Can American Values Radicalize Muslims?”
