Victor Davis Hanson // American Greatness
Once upon a time long ago, we agreed there were certain immutable laws of human nature. These laws were based on facts, reality, and data.
In other words, we accepted common sense about the way the world worked according to logical and even “scientific” principles. That assumption defined us as “enlightened” rather than Dark Age reductionists and ideological- or myth-driven zealots.
Not now. “Progressives,” especially the media, are most often regressive, anti-Enlightenment, and intolerant people, who start with a deductive premise and then make the evidence conform to it—or else.
Excellent analysis of this current “dark age”.
I choose NOT to participate in their woke schemes and will continue to push back.
Hello DR. Hanson
It seems you have a very accurate assessment of our current situation in the world. I don’t think Stephen King could have come up with a more deranged scenario then we are currently living in. The Covid19 virus being leaked out of a Chinese lab doing “gain of function” research, funded by the US government is hard enough to believe on its own. The Power grab by every branch of the American government is rather frightening, the only thing more so is the lack of resistance from the American people. The Modern Monetary experiment would be laughable if not for the rather obvious consequences that will be the final result. Then there is all of the new wow factors begging for belief; CRT, intersectionality, systemic racism, wokeism and the new focus on the significance of race “Race Matters”.
I fear the media and the elite mob have no idea where this is leading. The Race Riot in Tulsa should be a strong warning against the chosen path we are on. From what I find on the internet the black community brought the guns to the party, this encouraged the whites to go home and get their guns. The initial melee left 10 whites dead and 2 blacks. There seems to be enough blame to go around. I see both groups as behaving badly. As they say it takes two to tango. From what I read the black community did theirshare of shooting and it is not this one sided affair the media is selling everyone today. The black community certainly had the worst outcome.
The inaccurate portrayal of history to push a narrative is very dishonest. The Tulsa Race Riot is a stain on America. The inability of both groups to maintain even a minimum degree of civility and allow things to turn into a full fledged race riot is disgraceful to any free society. The historical sweeping it under the rug is likely an admission of the magnitude of failure that it was viewed as even back then. Not something either side was too proud of.
The dishonest media is scary. Goebbels understood the power of narrative. The Left in their lust for power and the blind media, thinking it is accomplishing some grand ideal, are taking us down a very dangerous path. I agree with you that the conservative majority do not believe anything the media says. My concern is the Left believes everything they say and is willing to go along with them in their twisted beliefs. The divide is a problem, a Grand Canyon size gulf at this point. All Americans should consider the Tulsa Race Riot as a dire warning from the past, racial division will lead us to a very ugly future. The thin veneer of civility is easy to destroy and hard to repair.
I enjoy reading your work, thank you for taking the time. Will Shannon
Arrogance, wealth, and received authority are always the super-spreaders and force-multipliers of false knowledge, and none more so than in the present age. On this final episode of The Classicist Podcast, Hoover Institution fellow Victor Davis Hanson answers listener questions on everything from farming to war movies to which books he’s always wanted to write but never gotten around to.
