In the eighteen years we have had dozens of chickens.
Victor, We now live in Idaho. We have chickens. We free range them every day, and they go to bed on their own at dusk. We have red tailed hawks among many other species. We have never lost a chicken to hawks. Racoons and skunks at night are the enemy, as are similar predators. But it's always at night. Prior to living in Idaho, we lived in Penryn, California, very close to your daughter. We free ranged our chickens there as well. Combined, over eighteen years, we have never lost a chicken to a hawk. To a dog once. We have always lived in the country, miles away from any urban or suburban communities.
