{"id":9388,"date":"2016-07-18T12:33:44","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T19:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/victorhanson.com\/wordpress\/?p=9388"},"modified":"2016-07-18T12:33:44","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T19:33:44","slug":"three-modest-propositions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/victorhanson.com\/wordpress\/three-modest-propositions\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Modest Propositions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"blog_author\">By Victor Davis Hanson \/\/<em> National Review Online<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"print_text\">\n<p>In future presidential editorialization about the shooting deaths of police officers, perhaps the president himself might first offer a few \u201cwords matter\u201d gestures that would reassure law enforcement, to use another Obama phrase, that he \u201chas their back.\u201d Here are just three low-bar proposals for how to discourage those who glorify or advocate lethal violence against criminal-justice officers:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"bullet-blue\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nationalreview.com\/sites\/all\/modules\/custom\/nro\/nro_filter\/images\/bullet_blue.gif?w=806\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>No longer invite into the White House any leaders whose affiliated members have marched chanting their desire to kill police officers (e.g., \u201cWhat do we want? Dead cops\u201d \/ \u201cPigs in a blanket; fry \u2019em like bacon\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"bullet-blue\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.nationalreview.com\/sites\/all\/modules\/custom\/nro\/nro_filter\/images\/bullet_blue.gif?w=806\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>Do not consult with any self-appointed leader in the White House whose past has included overt and implicit calls to shoot police officers (e.g., Al Sharpton:\u00a0\u201cI believe in offing the pigs. Well, they got pigs out here. You ain\u2019t offed one of them. What I believe in, I do. Do what you believe in.
