In the ongoing debate (or debacle) concerning free speech\/expression and Muslim grievance\u2014most recently on exhibition at Garland, where two \u201cjihadis\u201d opened fire on a \u201cProphet Muhammad\u201d art contest organized by Pamela Geller\u2014one thing has become clear: the things non-Muslims can do to provoke Islamic violence is limitless and far exceeds cartoons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

Writes Victor Davis Hanson<\/span><\/a> for example:<\/p>\n

[Pamela] Geller, and not the jihadists who sought to kill those with whom they disagreed, was supposedly at fault. Her critics could not figure out that radical Muslims object not just to caricatures and cartoons, but to any iconographic representation of Mohammed. Had Geller offered invitations to artists to compete for the most majestic statue of the Prophet, jihadists might still have tried to use violence to stop it. Had she held a beauty pageant for gay Muslims or a public wedding for gay Muslim couples, jihadists would certainly have shown up.\u00a0 Had she offered a contest for the bravest Islamic apostates, jihadists would have galvanized to kill the non-believers. Had she organized a support rally for Israel, jihadists might well have tried to kill the innocent, as they did in Paris when they murderously attacked a kosher market.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But it\u2019s even worse than that.\u00a0 The list of things that non-Muslims can do to provoke Islamic violence grows by the day and accords well with the list of things subjugated \u201cinfidels\u201d must never do lest they provoke their Islamic overlords as laid out by Islamic law, or Sharia.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As such, the West needs finally to come to terms with the root source of these ubiquitous, easily sparked \u201cMuslim grievances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Enter Muslim supremacism.<\/p>\n

Islamic doctrine\u2014which teaches that Muslims are superior to non-Muslims, <\/span><\/a>\u00a0who are further compared to dogs and cattle<\/span><\/a>\u2014imbues Muslims with this sense of supremacism over the rest of mankind.\u00a0 And a good portion of Islamic history\u2014when Muslims were for centuries on the warpath, subjugating large swathes of the Old Word\u2014further enforces it.<\/p>\n

This sense of Islamic supremacism was dramatically humbled after European powers defeated and colonized much of the Muslim world.\u00a0 Bred on the notion that \u201cmight makes right,\u201d Muslims, for a time, even began emulating the unapologetic and triumphant West.\u00a0 Turkey, for example, went from being the epitome of Islamic supremacy and jihad against Christian Europe for five centuries to emulating Europe in all ways, becoming perhaps the most Westernized\/secularized \u201cMuslim\u201d nation by the mid-1900s.<\/p>\n

Today, however, as Western peoples willingly capitulate to Islamic mores\u2014in the name of tolerance, multiculturalism, political correctness, or just plain cowardice\u2014Muslims are becoming more emboldened, making more demands and threats, as they realize they need not militarily defeat the West in order to resuscitate their supremacist birthright.\u00a0 (More appeasement from the bullied always brings about more demands from the bully<\/span><\/a>.)<\/p>\n

To understand all this, one need only look to Muslim behavior where it is dominant and not in need of pretense, that is, in the Muslim world.\u00a0 There, non-Muslim minorities are habitually treated as inferiors.\u00a0 But unlike the many Western appeasers who willingly accept a subservient role to Islam, these religious minorities have no choice in the matter.<\/p>\n

Thus in Pakistan, as Christian children were\u00a0singing carols inside their church<\/span><\/a>, Muslim men from a nearby mosque barged in with an axe, destroyed the furniture and altar, and beat the children.\u00a0 Their justification for such violence?\u00a0 \u201cYou are disturbing our prayers\u2026.\u00a0How dare you<\/span><\/em>\u00a0use the mike and speakers?\u201d<\/p>\n

And when a Muslim slapped a Christian and the latter reciprocated, the Muslim exclaimed \u201cHow dare a Christian slap me<\/span><\/a>?!\u201d Anti-Christian violence immediately ensued.<\/p>\n

Such is what I call the \u201cHow Dare You?!\u201d phenomenon.\u00a0 Remember it next time \u201cprogressive\u201d media, politicians, and other talking heads tell you that Muslim mayhem and outbursts are products of\u00a0grievances. Missing from their rationale is the\u00a0supremacist <\/span><\/em>base of these grievances.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Conditions of Omar<\/span><\/em>, a foundational medieval Muslim text dealing with how subjugated \u201cinfidels\u201d must behave, spells out their inferiority vis-\u00e0-vis Muslims.\u00a0 Among other stipulations, it\u00a0commands conquered Christians not to raise their \u201cvoices during prayer or readings in churches anywhere near Muslims\u201d (hence the axe-attack in Pakistan).\u00a0 It also commands them not to display any signs of Christianity\u2014specifically Bibles and crosses\u2014not to build churches, and not to criticize the prophet.\u00a0 (See\u00a0Crucified Again<\/span><\/em>: <\/span>Exposing Islam\u2019s New War on Christians<\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0for my translation of \u201cThe Conditions of Omar.\u201d)<\/p>\n

If the supremacist nature of Islamic law is still not clear enough, the\u00a0Conditions<\/span><\/em>\u00a0literally commands Christians to give up their seats to Muslims as a show of respect.<\/p>\n

By way of analogy, consider when Rosa Parks, a black woman, refused to give up her bus seat to white passengers.\u00a0 Any white supremacist at the time had sincere grievances:\u00a0how dare she\u00a0<\/span><\/em>think herself equal?<\/p>\n

But were such grievances legitimate? Should they have been accommodated?<\/p>\n

Likewise, are the endless \u201cgrievances\u201d of Muslims legitimate and should they be accommodated?\u00a0 These are the questions missing from the debate about easily bruised Muslim sensitivities.<\/p>\n

One can go on and on with examples from all around the Islamic world:<\/p>\n

In Turkey, a Bible publishing house was once stormed and three of its Christian employees\u00a0tortured, disemboweled, and finally murdered<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 One suspect later said: \u201cWe didn\u2019t do this for ourselves, but for our religion [Islam]\u2026. Our religion is being destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Egypt, after a 17-year-old Christian student refused to obey his Muslim teacher\u2019s orders to cover up his cross, the teacher and some Muslim students attacked, beat, and ultimately\u00a0murdered the youth<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

These Turkish and Egyptian Muslims were truly aggrieved: As seen, Islam\u2019s Conditions<\/span><\/em> makes\u00a0clear that Christians must not \u201cproduce a cross or Bible\u201d around Muslims.\u00a0How dare<\/span><\/em>\u00a0the Egyptian student and Turkish Bible publishers refuse to comply\u2014thus grieving Muslims into murdering them?<\/p>\n

In Indonesia, where it is becoming next to impossible for Christians to build churches, Christians often congregate outside to celebrate Christmas\u2014only to be attacked by Muslims hurling cow dung and bags of urine<\/span><\/a>\u00a0at the Christians as they pray.\u00a0 These Muslims are also sincerely aggrieved:\u00a0how dare<\/span><\/em>\u00a0these Christians think they can be a church when the\u00a0Conditions<\/span><\/em>\u00a0forbid it?<\/p>\n

In short, anytime non-Muslims dare to overstep their Sharia-designated \u201cinferior\u201d status\u2014which far exceeds drawing cartoons\u2014supremacist Muslims become violently aggrieved.<\/p>\n

From here, one can begin to understand the ultimate Muslim grievance: Israel.<\/p>\n

For if \u201cinfidel\u201d Christian minorities are deemed inferior and attacked by aggrieved Muslims for exercising their basic human rights, like freedom of worship, how must Muslims feel about Jews\u2014the descendants of pigs and apes, according to the Koran\u2014exercising power and authority over fellow Muslims in what is perceived to be Muslim land?<\/p>\n

How dare they?!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Of course, if grievances against Israel were really about justice and displaced Palestinians, Muslims\u2014and their Western appeasers\u2014would be aggrieved by the fact that\u00a0millions of Christians are currently being displaced by Muslim invaders<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Needless to say, they are not.<\/p>\n

So the next time you hear that Muslim rage and terrorism are products of grievances\u2014from cartoons to territorial disputes and everything in between\u2014remember that this is absolutely true.\u00a0 But these \u201cgrievances\u201d are not predicated on any human standards of equality or justice, only a supremacist worldview.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
