{"id":7027,"date":"2014-02-18T11:24:30","date_gmt":"2014-02-18T19:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/victorhanson.com\/wordpress\/?p=7027"},"modified":"2014-02-18T11:24:30","modified_gmt":"2014-02-18T19:24:30","slug":"new-york-times-biased-coverage-on-muslim-persectution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/victorhanson.com\/wordpress\/new-york-times-biased-coverage-on-muslim-persectution\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Times Biased Coverage on Muslim Persectution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Raymond Ibrahim \/\/<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/muslim-persecution-of-christians\/new-york-times-biased-coverage-on-muslim-persecution\/\" target=\"_blank\"> RaymondIbrahim.com<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/02\/09\/world\/africa\/nigeria-uses-law-and-whip-to-sanitize-gays.html?_r=1\"><em>New York Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0has finally found a victim of Islamic aggression in Nigeria worth reporting on: homosexuals. \u00a0 In a big spread complete with pictures appearing last week, the NYT\u2019s Adam Nossiter wrote \u201cWielding Whip and a Hard New Law, Nigeria Tries to \u2018Sanitize\u2019 Itself of Gays.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s all well and good to expose the persecution of any group, why does the NYT remain silent about the much more endemic and savage jihad to \u201csanitize\u201d Nigeria of Christians\u2014a jihad that has seen countless Christians butchered and countless churches destroyed?<\/p>\n<p>A 2012 meeting of Nigerian church heads concluded that \u201cthe pattern of these killings [of Christians] does suggest to us a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/Big-Peace\/2012\/01\/08\/Nigeria-Christians-Liken-Attacks-to-Civil-War-Run-Up\">systematic ethnic and religious cleansing<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among other things in the group\u2019s bid to cleanse the Muslim-majority north of all Christian presence, it has threatened to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/global.christianpost.com\/news\/nigerian-christian-leader-claims-boko-haram-to-launch-jihad-with-poisoned-meat-76949\/\">poison the food eaten by Christians<\/a>\u00a0and \u201cto strike fear into the Christians of the power of Islam by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.persecution.org\/2012\/03\/06\/nigerias-boko-haram-wants-to-kidnap-christian-women-says-spokesman\/\">kidnapping their women<\/a>.\u201d The group frequently storms areas where Christians and Muslims are intermingled\u2014from villages to colleges\u2014and singles the Christians out before\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/christian-students-executed-by-boko-haram-in-nigeria-believers-pray-for-change-of-heart-82646\/\">slitting their throats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.acnuk.org\/countries.php\/25\/nigeria\">2011<\/a>\u00a0hundreds of Christians were killed and 430 churches destroyed or damaged. In\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.persecution.org\/2013\/05\/05\/900-christians-slaughtered-in-nigeria-in-2012\/\">2012<\/a>, 900 Christians were slaughtered. \u00a0Indeed, of all Christians killed around the world in 2012, 70% were killed in the west African nation.\u00a0 \u00a0In\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldwatchlist.us\/world-watch-list-countries\/nigeria\/\">2013<\/a>, 612 Christians were killed and some 300 churches destroyed.\u00a0 The year 2014 promises to be the same.\u00a0 Just the other day,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jihadwatch.org\/2014\/02\/interfaith-outreach-in-nigeria-chanting-allahu-akbar-muslims-murder-over-50-christians\">over 50 Christians were slaughtered<\/a>\u00a0by \u201cAllahu Akbar\u201d screaming jihadis.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, from a purely demographic point of view, we may deduce that for every one man who gets exposed as a homosexual in the privacy of his own home, and killed for it, thousands of Christians expose themselves as infidels whenever they openly congregate and worship inside churches, as they do every Sunday, and get killed for it.<\/p>\n<p>Based on numbers alone, then\u2014assuming the NYT can agree that all human lives are equal, that the life of the Christian is equal in value to the life of the homosexual\u2014the dramatically much bigger story has long been the relentless and genocidal jihad on Nigeria\u2019s millions of Christians.<\/p>\n<p>But of course, it\u2019s not surprising that the NYT in general, reporter Adam Nossiter in particular, are biased concerning whose plight to highlight.\u00a0 The NYT and Nossiter are the very ones who, on December 25, 2011\u2014the day after Boko Haram bombed several churches during Christmas Eve services, leaving some 40 dead\u2014published a spread equivocating the truth concerning the Muslim persecution of Christians in the African nation.<\/p>\n<p>Then, on Christmas Day, 2011, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/12\/26\/world\/africa\/explosion-rips-through-catholic-church-in-nigeria.html?hp\">NYT\u2019s Nossiter<\/a>\u00a0declared:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The sect, known as Boko Haram,\u00a0<em>until now<\/em>\u00a0mostly targeted the police, government and military in its insurgency effort, but the bombings on Sunday\u00a0<em>represented a new, religion-tinged front<\/em>, a tactic that threatens to exploit the\u00a0<em>already frayed relations<\/em>between Nigeria\u2019s nearly evenly split populations of Christians and Muslims\u2026(emphasis added).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cUntil now\u201d?\u00a0 The fact is Boko Haram had been terrorizing and killing Nigerian Christians and destroying their churches\u00a0 several years before the 2011 Christmas church bombings.
