According to Egyptian media,\u00a0during<\/a>\u00a0his recent speech at the Dept. of Moral Affairs for the Armed Forces, Gen. Abdul Fateh al-Sisi\u2014the man who ousted former President Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood in response to the June Revolution and who is seen as the nation\u2019s de facto ruler\u2014declared that \u201cReligious discourse is the greatest battle and challenge facing the Egyptian people, and pointed to the need for a new vision and a modern, comprehensive understanding of the religion of Islam\u2014rather than relying on a discourse that has not changed for 800 years.\u201d<\/p>\n
