{"id":6351,"date":"2013-08-19T14:04:10","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T21:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/victorhanson.com\/wordpress\/?p=6351"},"modified":"2013-08-19T14:04:10","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T21:04:10","slug":"murbaraks-muslim-brotherhood-prophecy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/victorhanson.com\/wordpress\/murbaraks-muslim-brotherhood-prophecy\/","title":{"rendered":"Murbarak&#8217;s Muslim Brotherhood Prophecy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Raymond Ibrahim \/\/\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gatestoneinstitute.org\/3935\/mubarak-muslim-brotherhood\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Gatestone Institute<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=H8iHOULhH_4\">video of Hosni Mubarak<\/a>\u00a0when he was still Egypt\u2019s president, the strategies of which he accuses the Muslim Brotherhood have come to pass.\u00a0 What follows are Mubarak\u2019s words from a conference in Egypt (date unknown; author\u2019s translation):<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So they [Brotherhood and affiliates] took advantage of the economic situation by handing out money, \u00a0to one man 100 Egyptian pounds, or about $30 dollars, [saying,] \u201cHere take this bag of glycerin and throw it here,\u201d or do this or that\u2014to create a state of instability in Egypt.\u00a0 And these groups\u2014don\u2019t ever believe that they want democracy or anything like that.\u00a0 They are exploiting democracy in order to eliminate democracy.\u00a0 And if they ever do govern, it will be an ugly dictatorship. \u2026.\u00a0 Once a foreigner [likely a Westerner] told me, \u201cWell, if that\u2019s the case, why don\u2019t you let them form parties?\u201d\u00a0 I told him, \u201cthey\u2019d attack each other.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cSo let them attack each other.\u201d\u00a0 I came to understand that by \u201cattack each other\u201d he thought I meant through dialogue.\u00a0 For years we\u2019ve been trying to dialogue with them, and still are.\u00a0\u00a0 If the dialogue is limited to words, fine.\u00a0 But when the dialogue goes from words to bullets and bombs\u2026\u00a0 [Mubarak shakes his head, and then gives anecdotes of Egyptian police and security being killed by Brotherhood and affiliates, including how 104 policemen were killed in 1981, and how one officer was shot by them trying to save a boy\u2019s life.] The point is, we don\u2019t like bloodshed, neither our soldiers nor our officers.\u00a0 But when I see that you\u2019re firing at me, trying to kill me\u2014well, I have to defend myself!\u00a0 Then the international news agencies go to these [Islamist] groups for information, and they tell them, \u201cthey\u2019re killing us, they\u2019re killing us!\u201d\u00a0 Well, don\u2019t you [news agencies] see them killing the police?!\u00a0 I swear to you, not one of the police wants to kill them\u2014not one of us.\u00a0 Then they say, \u201cSo Mr. President, you gave orders to the police to open fire indiscriminately?\u201d\u2014I cannot give such an order, at all.\u00a0 It contradicts the law.\u00a0 I could at one point be judged [for it].<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Whatever one thinks of Hosni Mubarak\u2014and his final assertion concerning himself is especially prophetic\u2014he certainly understood the Brotherhood and their strategies well.\u00a0 Consider especially the following three points he made about them and how they have all proven true:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Mubarak: \u201cAnd these groups\u2014don\u2019t ever believe that they want democracy or anything like that.\u00a0 They are exploiting democracy in order to eliminate democracy.\u00a0 And if they ever do govern, it will be an ugly dictatorship.\u201d\u00a0 Quite so.\u00a0 While paying lip service to democracy, once the Brotherhood came into power under former president Muhammad Morsi, they became openly tyrannical: Morsi gave himself unprecedented powers for an Egyptian president, appointed Brotherhood members to all important governmental posts, \u201cBrotherhoodizing\u201d Egypt (as Egyptians called it), and quickly pushed through a Sharia-heavy constitution.\u00a0 Under Morsi\u2019s one year of rule,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/islam\/arab-spring-egypts-legal-persecution-of-christians\/\">many more Christians were attacked, arrested, and imprisoned for \u201cblasphemy\u201d<\/a>\u00a0than under Mubarak\u2019s thirty years.<\/li>\n<li>Mubarak: \u201cThen the international news agencies go to these groups [Brotherhood] for information, and they tell them, \u2018they\u2019re killing us, they\u2019re killing us!\u2019\u00a0 Well, don\u2019t you [news agencies] see them killing the police?!\u201d\u00a0 Now that the Brotherhood has been ousted and is<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/from-the-arab-world\/qaradawi-summons-foreign-jihadis-to-martyrdom-in-egypt\/\">promoting terrorism<\/a>\u00a0in Egypt\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/islam\/al-qaeda-flag-flies-high-above-christian-churches\/\">especially against its Christian minority<\/a>\u2014trying to push the nation into an all-out civil war, they are, in fact, feeding the international media the old lie that they are innocent, peaceful victims in order to garner Western sympathy.<\/li>\n<li>Mubarak: \u201cthey took advantage of the economic situation by handing out money.\u201d\u00a0 Funded by rich Wahhabi states, the Islamist organizations bought their way into Egyptian society and power.\u00a0 Prior to elections, they paid\u2014that is,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/from-the-arab-world\/muslim-brotherhood-buying-votes-with-food\/\">bribed<\/a>\u2014Egyptians to vote for them; and after their ousting, they\u2019re paying people (along with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/from-the-arab-world\/inside-egypts-terrorist-camps-torture-rape-mass-murder\/\">beating and forcing them<\/a>) to stay with them in Ra\u2018ba al-Adawiya, and provide them with numbers for practical and propagandistic purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Finally, consider Mubarak\u2019s exchange with \u201ca foreigner,\u201d most likely an American or European, who instantly interpreted Mubarak\u2019s \u201cthey\u2019d attack each other\u201d in Western political terms of \u201cdialogue.\u201d\u00a0 This habit of projecting Western approaches onto Islamists\u2014who ironically represent the antithesis of the West\u2014is one of the chief problems causing the West to be blind to reality, which must ever and always be articulated through its own paradigm, one that insists that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/islam\/understanding-islam-buddhist-common-sense-vs-western-nonsense\/\">violence is always a product of political oppression<\/a>\u00a0and that Islamists are perpetually misunderstood victims.<\/p>\n<p>In Egypt, however, one soon learns that, when \u201cdialogue\u201d doesn\u2019t go the Islamists\u2019 way,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/from-the-arab-world\/the-return-of-al-qaeda-and-jihad\/\">it\u2019s back to terrorism<\/a>.\u00a0 This requires a more realistic approach, or, in the words of Mubarak, a man who, like his predecessors, especially\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/islam\/muslim-brotherhood-impose-islam-step-by-step\/\">Gamal Abdel Nasser<\/a>, is intimately acquainted with the Brotherhood: \u201cwhen I see that you\u2019re firing at me, trying to kill me\u2014well, I have to defend myself!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Raymond Ibrahim \/\/\u00a0Gatestone Institute In a\u00a0video of Hosni Mubarak\u00a0when he was still Egypt\u2019s president, the strategies of which he accuses the Muslim Brotherhood have come to pass.\u00a0 What follows are Mubarak\u2019s words from a conference in Egypt (date unknown;
