FrontPage Magazine<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n As Egyptians of all factions prepare to demonstrate\u00a0\u00a0in mass against the Muslim Brotherhood and President\u00a0Morsi\u2019s\u00a0rule on June 30, the latter has been trying to reduce their numbers, which some predict will be in the millions and eclipse the\u00a0Tahrir\u00a0protests that earlier ousted Mubarak.\u00a0\u00a0Accordingly, among other influential Egyptians, Morsi recently called on Coptic Christian Pope\u00a0Tawadros\u00a0II to urge his flock, Egypt\u2019s millions of Christians, not to join the June 30 protests.<\/p>\n While that may be expected, more troubling is that the U.S. ambassador to Egypt is also trying to prevent Egyptians from protesting\u2014including the Copts.\u00a0\u00a0The June 18\u00a0edition of\u00a0Sadi\u00a0al-Balad<\/em>\u00a0reports that lawyer Ramses\u00a0Naggar, the Coptic Church\u2019s legal counsel, said that during Patterson\u2019s June 17 meeting with Pope\u00a0Tawadros, she \u201casked him to urge the Copts not to participate\u201d in the demonstrations against\u00a0Morsi\u00a0and the Brotherhood.<\/p>\n The Pope politely informed her that his spiritual authority over the Copts does not extend to political matters.<\/p>\n Regardless, many Egyptian activists are condemning Patterson for continuously behaving like the Muslim Brotherhood\u2019s stooge.\u00a0 Leading opposition activist Shady el-Ghazali Harb said Patterson showed \u201cblatant bias\u201d in favor of Morsi and the Brotherhood, adding that her remarks had earned the U.S. administration \u201cthe enmity of the Egyptian people.\u201d Coptic activists like George Ishaq openly told Patterson to \u201cshut up and mind your own business.\u201d And Christian business tycoon Naguib Sawiris\u2014no stranger to Islamist hostility\u2014posted a message on his Twitter account addressed to the ambassador saying \u201cBless us with your silence.\u201d<\/p>\n Indeed, the U.S. ambassador\u2019s position as the Brotherhood\u2019s lackey is disturbing\u2014and revealing\u2014on several levels.\u00a0\u00a0First, all throughout the Middle East, the U.S. has been supporting anyone and everyone opposing their leaders\u2014in Libya against Gaddafi, in Egypt itself against 30-year U.S. ally Mubarak, and now in Syria against Assad.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In all these cases, the U.S. has presented its support in the name of the human rights and freedoms of the people against dictatorial leaders.<\/p>\n So why is the Obama administration now asking Christians not to oppose their rulers\u2014in this case, Islamists\u2014who have daily proven themselves corrupt and worse, to the point that millions of Egyptians, most of them Muslims, are trying to oust them?<\/p>\n What\u2019s worse is that the human rights abuses Egypt\u2019s Coptic Christians have been suffering under Muslim Brotherhood rule are significantly worse than the human rights abuses that the average Egyptian suffered under Mubarak\u2014making the Copts\u2019 right to protest even more legitimate, and, if anything, more worthy of U.S support.<\/p>\n Among other things, under\u00a0Morsi\u2019s\u00a0rule, the persecution of Copts has practically been legalized,\u00a0\u00a0as unprecedented numbers of\u00a0Christians\u2014men, women, and children\u2014have been arrested, often receiving more than double the maximum prison sentence, under the accusation that they\u00a0\u201cblasphemed\u201d Islam and\/or its prophet<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0It was also under\u00a0Morsi\u2019s reign that another unprecedented scandal occurred: the St. Mark Cathedral\u2014holiest site of Coptic Christianity and headquarters to Pope\u00a0Tawadros\u00a0himself\u2014was\u00a0besieged in broad daylight<\/a>\u00a0by Islamic rioters.\u00a0\u00a0When security came, they too joined in the attack on the cathedral.\u00a0\u00a0And the\u00a0targeting of Christian children<\/a>\u2014for abduction, ransom, rape, and\/or forced conversion\u2014has also reached unprecedented levels under\u00a0Morsi.\u00a0\u00a0(For more on the plight of the Copts under\u00a0Morsi\u2019s\u00a0rule, see my new book\u00a0Crucified Again: Exposing Islam\u2019s New War on Christians<\/em><\/a>.)<\/p>\n Yet despite the fact that if anyone in Egypt has a legitimate human rights concern against the current Egyptian government, it most certainly is the Christian Copts, here is the U.S., in the person of Ms. Patterson, asking them not to join the planned protests.<\/p>\n In other words, and consistent with Obama administration doctrine, when Islamists\u2014includingrapists<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0cannibals<\/a>\u2014wage jihad on secular leaders, the U.S. supports them;
