In the old days, Democrats had predictable agendas, supposedly focused on individual rights, the \u201clittle guy,\u201d and distrust of the military-industrial-intelligence complex. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Left, often on spec, blasted the wealthy, whether the \u201clucre\u201d was self-made or inherited. The old-money rich were lampooned as idle drones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the rich were self-made, they were deemed sell-outs. A good example was \u201970s pop icon Jackson Brown\u2019s \u201cThe Pretender,\u201d whose lyrics railed about \u201chappy idiots\u201d who \u201cstruggled for the legal tender.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
