First let me say, I am a regular reader and viewer of\nyours. I relish your take on the important issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This evening on Tucker Carlson Tonight with Brian\nKilmeade 7\/16\/2020 you used some imprecise language that caused both me and my\nbride of many years great distress because she is currently teaching and I\ntaught briefly a few years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The subject was Teacher\u2019s Unions demands for among other\nthings defunding the police, Medicare for all, blah blah, and not working until\ntheir demands are met. What specifically offended us was the imprecise language\nyou used in saying that it was the Teachers making these demands as opposed to\nthe Teacher\u2019s Unions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please differentiate between the Teachers and the\nTeachers Unions in the future because not all teachers agree with the liberal\ndemocrat party line toed by the unions. It sounded to my wife as if you were\nsaying the Teachers were getting paid for not working and want to keep it that\nway. That is the furthest thing from her mind. She is called to teach and even\nat a point approaching retirement rather than phone it in, she expends a great\ndeal of imagination and creativity to provide a challenging educational\nexperience for her students daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your attention to this matter will be greatly\nappreciated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dear Not So Angry Reader Joe Cox,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think it is permissible in a brief 3-minute interview\nto reference \u201cteachers,\u201d as a generic in the manner we do \u201csteel workers,\u201d\n\u201cadministrators,\u201d the \u201cmilitary,\u201d etc. without adding specifications\u2014with the\nunderstanding that most realize that not everyone fits into that category. But\nthey are useful generalities: most teachers are in liberal unions, at least\nuntil recent court cases, and most tend to be more liberal than conservative.\nMost professors are too. Most auto workers believe in strong union agendas. And\nmost military, at least among the enlisted and mid-officer ranks, are more\nconservative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a teacher; my son is a teacher; my son-in-law is a teacher;\nmy father was a teacher. All of us at various times were \/ are represented by\nteacher or professor unions, and all probably were at odds with the official\nunion messaging, and our views were probably in a minority among their union\npeers. When I say \u201cacademics,\u201d and I do use that term, I assume most think that\nI am an academic who does not agree with the majority of the profession, and\nthat there exist also voices out there who don\u2019t either. Obviously, if most\nteachers felt like your spouse, then the unions would reflect that common-sense\nperspective; but they are overwhelmingly leftwing, either because teachers are\ntoo, or because too many teachers shrug and are not interested in showing up\nfor union voting, or do not have time for the hassle of opposing such a\nmonolithic and well-funded force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
