The high-quality Zurich newspaper is no fan of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a>. It is, therefore, noteworthy that the NZZ&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzz.ch\/feuilleton\/wer-stoert-wird-abgesetzt-und-verleumdet-ld.1560760\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">views<\/a>&nbsp;with alarm for the journalism profession recent events at the New York Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its opinion piece, the NZZ wonders whether we are seeing the \u201cend of the newspaper as a place of free thought and the beginning of a moralistic culture of denunciation.\u201d In doing so, it contends that the New York Times would be no different than the \u201cright-wing media\u201d that it often criticizes as being overly partisan instead of purely objective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NZZ\u2019s case in point: The forced resignation of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/person\/james-bennet\">James Bennet<\/a>, the opinion editor of the NYT. His sin, apparently, was publishing a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/03\/opinion\/tom-cotton-protests-military.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">guest commentary<\/a>&nbsp;by Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/tom-cotton-0\">Tom Cotton<\/a>&nbsp;(R-Ark.) entitled \u201cSend in the Troops.\u201d Cotton\u2019s piece endorsed a military intervention against the sometimes violent protests following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.
