{"id":12071,"date":"2019-11-20T10:00:23","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T18:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/victorhanson.com\/wordpress\/?p=12071"},"modified":"2019-11-19T20:57:49","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T04:57:49","slug":"the-wages-of-trump-fixation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/victorhanson.com\/wordpress\/the-wages-of-trump-fixation\/","title":{"rendered":"The Wages of Trump Fixation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Victor Davis Hanson \/\/ American Greatness<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Max Boot recently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2019\/11\/12\/republicans-have-no-convincing-argument-against-impeachment\/\">wrote<\/a>&nbsp;that my arguments against the impeachment inquiry are&nbsp;<em>prima facie<\/em>&nbsp;proof of why the Democrats should, in fact, impeach Trump: \u201cIf even the great historian Victor Davis Hanson can\u2019t make a single convincing argument against impeachment, I am forced to conclude that no such argument exists.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, I made 10&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/11\/12\/10-reasons-why-this-impeachment-inquiry-is-really-a-coup\/\">such arguments<\/a>, all of which Boot attempted, but has failed, to refute. In this context, Boot\u2019s intellectual erosion as a historian and analyst is a valuable warning of stage-four Trump Derangement Syndrome. I offer that diagnosis with regret given I once knew and liked Boot. But his commentary over the last three years has become sadly unhinged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most recently Boot declared\u2014and then quickly retracted it only in embarrassment after popular outrage\u2014that chief ISIS mass-murdering psychopathic Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi did not kill himself in cowardly fashion as Trump had described: \u201cThe assertion that Baghdadi died as a coward was, in any case, contradicted by the fact that rather than be captured, he blew himself up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Baghdadi was cornered by American forces, he chose to murder three innocent children rather than surrender\u2014consistent with his entire venomous career of ordering the beheading, burning, and mutilating of innocent captives from a safe distance.
