Even when I found them occasionally incoherent and cruel, I thought it hardly my business to object to a colleague\u2019s writing. But I gather, under changed circumstances, such deference no longer applies, given that in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2018\/04\/defused\/556934\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Williamson\u2019s very first column at\u00a0<em>The Atlantic<\/em><\/a>\u00a0he attacks both me, and in a backhanded way, his former employer\u00a0<span class=\"small_caps\">National Review<\/span>\u00a0for publishing a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2018\/03\/high-tech-corporations-need-oversight-muckraking-reporters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent article I wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Last week, my former\u00a0<em>National Review<\/em>\u00a0colleague Victor Davis Hanson published an essay calling for a stronger regulatory hand over high-tech companies, fondly recalling the \u201ccultural revolution of muckraking and trust-busting\u201d of the 19th century, and ending with a plea for \u201csome sort of bipartisan national commission that might dispassionately and in disinterested fashion offer guidelines to legislators\u201d about more tightly regulating these companies, perhaps on the public-utility model.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/kevin-williamson-national-review-response-atlantic-piece\/?utm_source=Hoover+Daily+Report&amp;utm_campaign=3fe505ff69-HDR&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_21b1edff3c-3fe505ff69-73437989\">Read the full article here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Victor Davis Hanson \/\/ National Review In the past, I have often enjoyed Kevin Williamson\u2019s essays.
