Listen to VDH discuss how universities need to be reformed to serve the interests of the students, parents and our country. Click either the title or “Continue Reading…” to get to the video.
Thank you for telling the truth about cost of higher education! University of Utah is forcing students to live on campus under the mistaken premise that their ability to learn and earn higher grades will increase. Thus a huge dormitory building program and increased consolidated tuition in a location with historically commuter students. There is also increasing percentage of foreign students who subsidize by paying higher fees with unknown American societal benefits.
We can hope and pray that those in government will pay attention to what Dr. Hanson says. These things must be done, no matter how many objections are raised. Otherwise America will continue its headlong rush off the cliff.
University education in the U.S. is one important thing; but then there is also the K-12 build-up to that. If we look, for example, at the “PISA” country-comparison tests done by OECD, what we see is that the trendline for American students is down ….. down ….. down.
It is hard to spark a desire to learn. In my experience, if I tell someone, ‘Don’t let schools stand in your path to education! And don’t let churches stand in your path to God!’, then their eyes tend to glaze over and roll back in their heads.
The problems are largely unresolvable at this point. Hundreds of billions in student debt with very little prospect of it being paid back because the wages don’t match the cost incurred except for the more narrowly skilled departments, Nursing, CS, Engineering, hard sciences. Liberal arts are basically a waste of resources and allowing children to take out loans to pursue degrees in that field is borderline cruelty. They’d be better off buying a new car on credit in the vast majority of cases, at least that has resale value. Oh you’re going to be a history teacher and make $46,000? Have fun paying your $60,000 in student loans when rent is $1200+.
The problems in this country will not be fixed, it’s going to be an economic zone for foreign labor to be exploited by the best accumulators of capital, a bit like late republican Italy, whether the voters like it or not. Americans are going to be faced with an ever more competitive marketplace, more labor, less goods, less hours , with the only options being compete or die. This will only contribute further to the destruction of concepts like community and marriage, as well as the religious faith that underpinned them. Christ would be a fool in 2025 America. Never question the Temple first off!
The only purpose of living in the U.S to make money by any means possible, regardless of the consequences for others, and then protect yourself from the consequences with high gates and the latest in electronic surveillance.
Next time you hear about how the taxpayers should excuse school loans, keep the following in mind.
Student Loan Usage Percentage
Based on the provided search results, a 2019 LendingTree survey found that:
20% of students used student loan funds for travel
26% used them for clothes
It’s worth noting that only 10% of students surveyed reported using student loan funds solely for tuition. This suggests that a significant portion of students (around 46%, combining travel and clothes) are using their school loans for non-essential or discretionary purposes.
